Getting ebook for free? hmm...
Anyway I personally do not like looking at the computer screen for too long. Also, some of the ebooks are made in such a way that the diagrams are on the next page, and it's somewhat more annoying to flip the pages of an ebook back and forth, compared to real books. Also, books have more sentimental values...at least for me |

I agree. I personally dislike the e-book format.

You can enlarge the font so that only one page sits in the screen. Otherwise, you can always print them and bound the ebook like a book?
I agree. Some of the free pdf download is not all that impressive and there's always advertisement of their next paid ebooks that they want you to buy. But if you look around, some are actually readable and learnable. Steve Pellegrino in his MagiCentric magic review lists some very good downloads - some are free - http://www.magicentric.com/

Michael Close seems to have really discovered *how* ebooks are supposed to work. His latest PDF files -- 'On the Bottom Palm' and 'On the Faro' (the PDF -- not the CDROM) -- are fantastic. The embedded video is just superb -- and it's all contained with the PDF file.
No weird page breaks, no weird video imcompatibilities. |

Richard Osterlind's ebooks are often works of genius. The same with a few other authors as well, including John Cassidy. Of course, the layout is important and the better ebooks are layed out very well. Some (see Cassidy) even come with links to audio and video files. This is an incredible teaching tool. Don't let some bad apples turn you off. Personally I dislike reading more than a couple of pages on the screen and always print up an ebook before I read it. I keep them filed and know some people who go as far as punching holes and putting their ebooks in binders. The leap from an ebook to a book is a short one and as mentioned above, ebooks can offer some benefits (of course only when looked at on screen) that are impossible to achieve with a regular book. Keep reading books, but don't give up on ebooks!

I love ebooks. You don't have to hold the book open while you're practicing sleights . I usually print out the tricks I want to practice.

To me, some of the greatest ebooks are scans of the old classic magic texts. As these are long out of print, they would be hard to find, and very expensive to buy if you did find them. For example, I have a set of Professor Hoffmann's books in ebook format from The Learned Pig that I would never have been able to own otherwise.
I also have ebook versions of a few books I actually own print copies of, like Expert at the Card Table, and Annemann's mentalism books. Why? Because they're searchable. What might take me fifteen minutes to find scanning the print books, I can find in fifteen seconds in the electronic version. Then I can mark it to read in the print version at my leisure.

I love ebooks but I sometimes I have limit myself of reading from my computer too long because as I understand that is quite bad to our eyes vision if expose to the ray too long.
Normally, I print them out and staple them to make a complete booklet for me to read and try out each of the effects. Andrew Check out my new card magic eBooks "The Magnificent Queens" & "Triple Charms" at: www.cardicianden.com My Cardician Den Blog: http://pasteboards.blogspot.com/ |

I disagree with it whole-heartedly I'm afraid Sam.
It is morally and ethically wrong, magicians earn their living from selling their books/videos/dvd's/ebooks etc, and just because the ebook is not in paper format does not mean that the ideas contained in the text do not warrant the same monetary value. It is theft, plain and simple, and more importantly, it is theft from a fellow magician. Liam

They were the first ebooks in magic and possibly anywhere, with that many embedded video clips. Their groundbreaking design was recognized with a finalist position in the EPPIE ebook awards. I am just trying to keep the record straight. We carry most of Michael Close's ebooks and think they are great. But we have literally hundreds of other great ebooks at Lybrary.com. Best, Chris....

On the Genii forum, Richard Kaufman posted some information regarding ebooks. Reportedly next year there is a portable device that will be released on the market that reads ebooks. I believe it can hold up to 60 large books. It will have a slot to insert your disks with your saved pdf's. No more sitting in front of your computer all day. I believe it will be about 200 dollars.

There are many such devices already available from sub-notebook computers to tablet PCs to PDAs or other dedicated ebook readers such as the RocketEbook reader. There are two fairly new devices, one from Sony and one from IRexTechnologies, which use the new e-ink screen which will improve the reading experience.
Devices have been around for many years, they will get better and better incrementally. I am not sure which device Kaufman has in mind, but then he isn't really they guy who is on the forefront of technology Best, Chris....
