Yup....it is a good book and I enjoyed it .... just bear in mind that it will not teach you how to execute moves...it is a book exposing cheating methods used.
A lot of information is a rehash of old material....but, there is also a lot of new material, which I have not seen in print before. The book is beautifully bound and put together and I did enjoy reading it. But, if you are a beginner trying to learn technqiue....you will find the book interesting....but,, as I said, it is not a "how to" book.....just an expose book. You missed the autographed copies....think the autographed copies are sold now.

Incidentally, the photographs for Steve's next book, Poker Protection were taken yesterday. They should be through "post-production" (cropping and resizing) very soon, and final drafts should go out to copy-editors within a month or so.
The book is ~300 pages (the poker chapter in Casino Game Protection was ~ 35 pages) and has dozens and dozens of new photographs. Look for the book in the Fall (if we're lucky) or early next year. Jason

Has anyone seen a table of contents for the new book ?
Will it be a book written as an expose book or a "how to" book ?

Thanks, Andrew.
Unfortunately, I can't tell how "new" his 35 pages in the Casino book were, as I don't own it yet. Andrei |

Expertmagician,
The format is essentially the same as Casino Game Protection but dedicated entirely to poker of course. There is information on both casino and private games in the new book. Additionally, the marked cards section from CGP is included in Poker Protection, but has been expanded/updated. Jason

My main concern is that it will not be a rehash of the Casino Game Protection Series which talks about cheating at card games.
I suspect he may talk about collusion and some other techniques which are poker specific...we will see

Expert,
I've read an early draft, and was leafing through the latest draft at the photoshoot. You'll like it. Jason

I am sure I will buy it for my collection anyway. I have to be well informed, even if that means "reading between the lines".
Since you saw a draft...did you notice if it was a "how to" teaching book OR was it an expose/"what to look our for" book ?

Like I said, the format is virtually identical to CGP. It isn't designed to teach you how to cheat. There is no "place this finger there and that finger there, then push with your thumb" kind of instruction. But the moves and concepts are described so that the reader gets an idea of what is possible, and information on how to prevent/detect the various cheating techniques.

I'm surprised you guys are expecting a "how to" treatise with a title such as "Poker Protection..."

If a person is VERY experienced. Than an explaination of ideas and concepts with photos is good enough to extrapolate technique.
But, for 95+% of magicians who may think that they will learn "how to"....they may be disappointed. Ragardless, I am sure it will be an interesting read...Forte always does a good job. I do find something interesting though.... There were stories going around about Forte writing tha Casino Protection Book as a favor and not to make money. There was also talk about it not being republished for the same reason. Now I suspect that money is the motivator and that these books are NOT going to be limited editions....so, speed is not of the essence. I don't know know who handles his marketing, but, the hype was fun the first go round...... There is an old saying "fool me once, shame on you.....fool me twice shame on me". I am sure I will buy it anyway...but, I don't think I will rush like I did for the last book

He said he's aiming for around $40 - 50.
This is a book designed for a larger audience than Casino Game Protection. He would like this one to be available in larger bookstores around the country. Expert- You don't need to listen to "stories" going around. Just look at the dedication where Steve writes that Jim Keller was the driving force behind him writing the book. Yes, it was a favor of sorts. I'm also a little confused about your comment concerning "fool me once...." If you were "fooled" into buying Steve's book by thinking it was something that it wasn't, then shame on you the first time! Steve was very concerned that people would buy it wanting a "How to" book, and went out of his way to make it clear that it was not that kind of book. The interview published with David Malek made this abundantly clear, I stated it several times on this very board, and so did several others (and on other boards). If you're claiming some specific retailers mislead you, that's fine. But as it stands now you may or may not be claiming the author mislead you. I can't tell. Jason
