As for references, I learned it from the Charlie Miller clip Bishop had on his site a couple of years ago. Thirty minutes ago I would have sworn that it is in Expert Card Technique, but I've just looked and I can't find it...I've seen it somewhere, possibly in the first edition of ECT.
Take care, Ian |

Ian Kendall's videos are first rate. His learn to juggle video is terrific, not to mention *** Hard Moves Made Easy.
Thanks Ian.

^ I have Karl Fulves' Epilogue... lots of excellent (but tough) material in there. You can see the full table of contents here (the One-hand Table Faro is listed under Issue 12, July 1971):

I've got several hundred hours in the perfect one0handed faro with crappy Bicycle Standard decks. I"m at maybe 15 out of 100 perfect. I imagine that with a good deck that might improve. I've tried Riders, and the thin-pressed Tally Ho-s from conjuring arts, as well as the Lee Asher Fourniers (which so far have given me the best results.) Is there a brand of cards that you might recommend?
Thanks for any advice you can give me. BTW, I'm working on a booklet about Faro technique (no tricks) that will hopefully be done before I die. ~ Brian

I wish I could get back all the time I spent on the faro shuffle.harry lorayne taught it to me in the mid 60's but I never got any practical use from it working for the public.the two-layer fan and the card gun were all that I could get any mileage out of.charlie miller famously stated that he wished he could get back all the time he spent on things he never used...life is short, pick wisely...

Padre Rich,
I agree about spending time on what's worthwhile, but the fact that the faro isn't for you doesn't mean anything to people who get something out of it. I started with "Vernon's Aces" from Harry Lorayne's "Close-up Card Magic" and have enjoyed many great faro routines since then. I get a lot of "juice" out of it. Didn't take me that much effort to learn compared to other things. For example, I've never mastered the bottom-deal, and find it a lot harder to learn than a lot of other people do, but I'm sure it's very useful for them, and I'd like to learn it eventually. I've got lots of hours in the one-handed perfect faro. I can do it to some extent with both hands. I'll probably never use it professionally. Big deal. It's fun, and I love doing it. It's like playing classical guitar. It doesn't get most people the gigs that doing covers of "Freebird" does, but it's a lot more innerly satisfying. If I may, I'll tell you what I wish I could get my hours back on - doing "commercial" stuff that everyone else does. But that's just a personal judgment call.

Years ago jack gwynn appeared before a magic club, flummoxed them with a card trick.later, when he revealed his method,it was a one-way deck.they were all disappointed in him.he told them,"I'm a professional,i don't have the time to spend on difficult sleights." all according to each's needs.thanks for your time and insights...btw,finding/doing material that no one else is doing is quite satisfying and the only way to be unique(sponge balls excepted).doing effects with props you've MADE YOURSELF is the ultimate pleasure(and you can repair them),something that ali bongo preached.not long ago I nearly went crazy filing down coins for a scotch and soda set, having been shown it by connie haden when I was a teenager in 1964...never lose the fun of doing trix...

Paul Rathbun, is this a perfect table caro, or a normal table faro?

Paul Rathbun,
I downloaded it yesterday and watched it today. It is, indeed, a perfect faro, and a good tutorial, at a great price ($2). Thanks for the heads-up about that.

Now is the time to purchase it. It is only $1
https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/card-m......shuffle/ I will say it is difficult to do even as an imperfect shuffle. I wish he had commented on table surface. I have tried both a soft and hard surface with different results but neither one is showing consistency.

Paul,
I've already purchased it. It's a good tutorial, but your point is valid. Also what kind of cards and condition. Thanks for your input. I'm glad I bought it.

Powell,
Certainly worth a $1, but you bring up a valid point also about the card type and condition. It looks like his cards are bowed upward along the length, but he never mentions it. I wish there were a bit more detail.
