Yuck, but that weakens the effect. What is so great about this then. They would just assume you got the number somehow.
Compare it to just meeting the stranger and doing it. That would be great and would definitely leave them speechless.

But ofcourse niva.
How can you ring a stranger without getting his/hers phone number ? It would be REAL magic just to ring them. forget about the card picking and stuff. I guess it does weaken the effect but the spectator does'nt know that. and that how magic takes place in spectators own mind. |

I don't know. I had higher hopes. That's all.

niva,
Put yourself in the spectators placed. How would you react if a total stranger (in your mind ) aproached you and did this trick ? I know there is a bit of psychological set-up involved here. but its worth it. I must admit this trick is not my cup of tea but everybody has a diffrent taste. The Blaine'O Mania has started again. Anything he does........ |

Still, great idea, new twist to the old revelation of a selected/thought of card plot, but again it's very situational.

I have to say I am VERY suprised that you need to have the phone number I would have expected better from doug who likes mobile phones and is very clever. If there is a secknd version that can be done without knowing their phone nu. then I would punt on this.

Wonderful things do happen
Magic is so relative, that we all think we know what it is @pablovaldes |

Doug mentions it once before but I forgot where that this is a situational effect. Mobile phones are pretty regular so it's semi-safe to rule out that availibility of a mobile is situational so we're left with 1) needing the other person's number 2) needing a way to make the call and 3) mobiles with no caller ID (which is practically slim to none so we're back to the first two). Whatever the method is, it is still a clever effect but I doubt it would be a worker piece.

I should explain better why I feel a bit disappointed. I have always learned that one of the greatest elements in magic is the surprise element. Now imagine both scenarios:
Scenario 1: Spectator is asked to write her mobile no on your business card. It is folded and given back to the spectator. (Why?... Anyway) Then the spectator chooses a card. While shuffling the cards, her mobile phone rings. (The mobile phone may stillbe in her hand... maybe) Her mind is already racing, no it can't be, that would be impossible... and it is. It's their card staring at their face. Scenario 2: Spectator is met for the first time and asked if she wants to help with a card trick. She picks a card. Shuffles the deck. Her phone rings. Who could this be, hmmm... (A good excuse to get rid of this idiot ). And then they find that their card is trying to contact them. I mean there is a lot of difference. And I was led towards the second scenario from the ad. My fault, should have suspected it.

It's been 3 weeks since the airing of the David Blaine special and this has not been released yet. The question remains: will this be released and when?

Niva, dude, seriously...
You sound like one of those people who is disappointed when they find out how Ring Flight really works and that the ring doesn't actually vanish by magic and reappear on your keyring. There are plenty of ways to get a phone number without the spectator knowing. The easiest of which would be to get it from someone else who knows the number in confidence. No big deal.
It's all in the reflexes.

Well actually your analogy is far off. To me the Ring Flight is one of the closest effects to real magic as you can get get.
A perfect analogy would be to tell the spectator to look at the three headed monkey behind him and hide the ring while he looks away. Since technology is at place here, I thought we were dealing with something far better. And I don't know what all the fuss between Marco Tempest and the inventor is all about here. Nothing is out of the extraordinary, like the ad lets you believe. And what is the difference between this and the effect in Ammar's ETCM series. Quote:

For 1 it ruins the effect for the person involved. But that is not so bad for such a great effect. But most important, that limits the effect a lot. If you perform for friends only that is fine, otherwise it is very difficult.

Maybe if you are in a formal situation, you can ask for a personal business card (not all official ones may have cell phone number). Do some effect with that, meanwhile looking at the number. Then after a few more effects perform this.
Just a thought!
To believe is Magic.
