Hello all!

With the revamping of the Café card format, this is a shameless plug to make sure that you get to read about the Oops! cards, which are a fully gaffed mismade deck.

There is currently an Oops! special deal running, as shown on the small banner on the Café home page.

You can also read about the cards under "New Tricks and Effects".

The great feedback, and ideas, continue......

Thanks so much,
Michael Daniels

Ordered mine a couple of days ago. I'm really looking forward to receiving them. Clever idea.

Got my Oops! decks last night, and they look great! Definitely the most unusual Bicycles I own.

It surprised me a little that the corners are rounded as in a normal Bicycle deck (not square) and there is no notch pre-cut in the middle as I had assumed there might be. If you follow the instructions, there is some prep work to doing the 'torn and restored card' trick with them, in that you will have to trim the ends square and cut a couple of small rounded notches in the middle once the card is folded. But only if you're a stickler for detail. Frankly, I don't think your average spectator will notice if you just fold 'em and leave it at that. It just means the restoration process got a bit further along, in that it fixed the corner rounding. Smile

I'm planning a throw-away joke using them. I bought a deck of Bicycle 'seconds' online, which came in a box which clearly says 'Bicycle SECONDS' in big letters. I'm going to put the cards from the 'Oops!' deck in the seconds box, and say 'I got these cards for a great price because they say they're trimmed slightly off.' I should get a good laugh when I pull these cards out of that box!

Airship,

Thanks for the positive comments. Interesting that you brought up the corners and the notch in the middle. I actually tried to get them printed that way by USPCC but their printing and cutting process couldn't handle my request. It was most important for me to get the bicycle pattern to "bleed" off the ends of the cards, with no white border, which they did agree to do. I think that helps sell the look if you don't want to do the card prep.

By the way, to get a perfect notch in the middle, fold the card in half and trim them with a nail clipper. Two clips on either side gives them an authentic looking round/notch.

Thanks for the comments and support.

Michael, I actually bought a corner-rounding punch at a scrapbooking store that does a great job of rounding the corners of trimmed cards, and even folded-over Oops! cards. And as for having that notch cut at the factory, I don't know what I was even thinking. I'm very well acquainted with the commercial printing business (having been a magazine editor for many years) and I KNOW it would take a special die to do that. No way would USPCC do it without charging an absolute fortune. I can just imagine the 'chat' you had to have with them just to get them to bleed the back pattern. Smile

Airship,

USPCC was great to work with but, when in doubt, I did it their way! I guess they have earned the right. I can only imagine how many decks they have produced.

On a side note - I had them print me up a few "full/uncut" sheets of Oops! cards, and just back it off my total deck order. The full sheet is one strange looking item, but fun to hang on my wall.

Thanks,
Michael

BTW, Mike? Please don't put your info sticker on the box. It ruins the box - I can't get it off without tearing. Remember, the card box is a resource, too - some places charge $.50-.75 apiece for boxes! Smile

Airship,

Never thought of that. Sorry. I actually thought they were the "removable" stickers.

Is there a routine included with the decks?

You get four photocopied sheets from the 1st Quarter 2006 issue of Antimony, which presents a 'Mismade Card' effect. The article says that when the Oops! deck is released, it will include 'an assortment of effects'. It's in pre-release now. For ten bucks for two decks, I think the pre-release is an incredible deal.

Okay, Mike, I've got an effect for you to work on. Here's the presentation:

You tell your spectators that you don't have to buy cards anymore, you just print your own. You demonstrate by placing a blank card between two others. You push it through your (hand |empty card box |cheap plastic gimmick |custom Japanese-made miniature teak printing press |whatever) and the three cards come out the other side. When you separate them, the back of one and the face of the other have been magically transferred to the blank card. Success!

So far, it's kind of like Miraculous Printing by Alex McLittle (which I don't own and haven't seen, by the way): http://www.magicproshop.com/miraculous-p......039.html

Now you try it again, but... it gets stuck. You give it a whack, and the cards come out, but the middle (formerly blank) card is offset by 1/2. Sure enough, when you separate them, the middle card is an Oops! card.

I've even got the effect named for you: 'Misprint!' Now all YOU have to figure out is the working. Hey, I've done all the HARD work for you! Smile

(I've actually done a little practicing trying to work out something using a card frame, but I think something with more motion and/or no props at all would be sweeter.)

Airhip,

Great idea. Logan had also suggested tryng to figure out how to incorporate the cards in a "Presto Printo" style routine, a la Darryl.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am finalizing an updated/expanded manual with existing, and newly submitted, ideas.

Hello all,

I'm resurrecting this thread to provide you with a link to the review of the Oops! cards as just posted on the Café by Steve Brooks. Here it is....

Michael,
I see you only offer the booklet by itself as a special offer for Antinomy subscribers. Since I already have TWO 'Oops!' decks thanks to the 2-for-1 Café special offer, is there any way I can get in on the deal, even though I don't subscribe to Antinomy? I know I should. But I have to eat, too! Smile
Thanks.

Mark,

I'll be happy to sell you the booklet only. At this time, the booklet looks like it may turn into a DVD! It would be an 8-9 routine DVD utilizing Oops! cards. I'll be happy to sell the DVD (without the cards) to those that bought the Oops! cards before the booklet was/is ready. And, I'll honor the $9.95 booklet price. Can't beat that.

I'll keep you posted on the timing.

Thanks,
Michael Daniels
