In your opinion, which DVD is best in explaining the techniques of pickpocketing.

Well between byrds and coats or freedman's.

James Freedman wins by a mile. Until Apollo Robbins puts something out...

Mark Raffles does a good explaination as well.


But Freedman is the most thorough.

My vote is with Freedman's. Very clear and thorough.

Freedman and Raffles both do a great explaination on how to do pickpocketing on stage.

Coats and Byrd both do well explaining how to pick pockets in a more close up street kind of situation, but I would suggest getting Freedman's DVD overall.

I would not compare Freedman's DVD with Coats and Byrd's. They're very different, and both worth acquiring since they shed a different light on pickpocketing. You'll learn from both. As James states above, B&C are more a kind of street pickpockets while Freedman is a pure stage pickpocket.

I liked both. But do not overlook the books. Dunn's and Ravel's are a goldmine.

I would agree with Phedon. Both Dunn and Ravel are required reading but I would like to add...if you want a great reference video on watch stealing only, I don't think you can beat "The Watch Steal Video" by Charles Bach and Chappy Brazil. All of these references are outstanding.

Agreed...

I considered learning pickpocketing tricks a few years ago...I suppose what made me not learn them was the thought that people might actually accuse me of stealing something in my school. Maybe when I get a bit older and out of that "don't trust that kid" age, I'll have to learn atleast a watchsteal.

Ricki's book is great, but Ravel's book is next to impossible to find.

Perhaps he meant hard to find at magic shops. Though I got my copy at Denny & Lee's (Baltimore) a few months ago. =) =)

I see Freedman has 2 DVDs.

My bad, I meant to say that Raffles book is next to impossible find.

If you can get Freedman's Pick a Pocket or two I suggest getting it. The problem is, getting it. Its not on DVD. (As far as I know its only on video) and even the video is sold out.

Freedman's book is very little (about 6 or 8 pages at most.)You would do better by saving a little extra cash and getting Ricki Dunn's book instead.

I would recomend James Freedman as well. after learnung some of his tips I moved on to some mark raffles videos or books.
