I have heard of a routine called the sucker silk, and I was wondering what the basic effect was. I was also wondering what the trick known as the spot card is.

Sucker silk is actually a series of tricks with similar names to them, such as sucker silk, sucker silk xl, etc. Basically it is like all sucker tricks, the magician does a trick then pretends to show the audience how he did it, then fools them with an ending to the effect they didn't expect. Most sucker silks follow the line of using color changing silks. You stuff a colored silk of one color into your hand, then remove a different colored silk. You proceed to now demonstrate to your audience how this is done, but they are fooled when the outcome is different than what they expect.
Not sure exactly which effect ur refering to as the spot card. Several effects use that in their name. Do you perhaps mean dots right? Another sucker type trick, where the magician shows a large playing card with 4 pips or dots on it and turns it over and shows one dot on the other side, then turns the card over again to show 5 pips, then turns the card over to show two pips, then turns it over to show 6 pips, then turns it over to show three pips, then proceeds to apparently demonstrate how the trick is done, by covering various dots with his hand as he turns the card, but then takes his hand off the dots to show the dots are really there and gets even more dots up to 10?
"Now here's the man with the 25 cent hands, that two bit magician..."

Thank you for replying. The reason I was probably uncertain was because of the various tricks with the same name. I know that Ken Brooke used an effect known as the sucker silk in his program, and I was just curious to know what that was specifically. Your explanation for the spot card makes sense in the context I was reading about it in, so thank you for that.

I have performed with a card. it may be the card you are referring to. it is a card with two spot in one side and five in the other side but the way you handle the card gives the appearance that there are more spots. Here is a picture of my friend Jack Stephens performing the effect as an explanation of how the mind fills in the blanks on things. http://www.jack-stephens.com/seethemagic/pic8.htm Very intelligent presentation I should add. If you have any questions pm me

Thank you for pointing that out, Ricahato. I believe that is what the spot card is.

I saw Neilson makes a Deluxe model (same inventor who makes the quality bottles we all use). It looks like one in the photo Ricahato shared with us. Ricahatol, I do optical illusions and suggestion in my show, this may fit the bill.
Can anyone tell me if the Neilson is the best on the market? It sells for $30 reasonable.
