At a guess I'd say they sold the skirt to buy the stool. Either that or they couldn't afford it once they hired David Seaman (former England Goalkeeper) to help with separating the boxes.

That second swaing video...
Just a presentational thing, but when they lifted up the boxes, they should have switched the sides. The top from the right gets put on the bottom from the left and vice versa, so when they come out at the end of the trick, they would have mismatched bottoms (Having "Traded" the lower halves of their bodies). It is the only way I could see a point to doing two at once. Gwyd |

Gsidhe, that's what I was expecting too. Was quite surprised when they didn't do that. Especially with the size of the boxes and the tables, I thought a little kick like the mismatched element should have been present.

The second video.... Why such a big base with those HUGE BOXES?????
I did like the idea where they lifted the boxes,,,, this could have been very dramatic and awesome.... I am STILL in shock over those bases.... I thought they were going to make the statue of Liberty reappear.......

That was old school sawing- I first read about it in "The Amateur Magician's Handbook" when I was a kid! Never thought I'd see that routine actually done today.
By the way, from my understanding, Asian audiences tend to be more subdued where applauds are concerned, so that might have actually been a really good reaction. I do agree, they should have switched the upper and lower halves. By the way, who here's heard of "Sawing a Lady into Twins", where the box stays apart, but a little person jumps out of each half?

Since we're on the sawing subject, why does everyone do the old 'pull her head to make the blade drop' in the Thin Model Sawing?? I know its an age-old thing that everyone does but WHY does everyone have to do this move?

I loved the original video. He must have had some real training. Did you see him to the twinkling Jazz fingers when he walked in between the halves?
Seriously though, what is this IMS series? Is that the series that was put out by Tony Hassini? |

Dear EsnRedshirt,
Tom Voss of Germany does a sawing in 2 where they open the boxes & 2 little children come out ! The idee has also been used in some cartoons... |

You don't like my performance? Wow I have spent hours perfecting pushing the blades in. I thing that my performance is the best ever, and my assistant spent hours practicing climbing up the fancy plastic step stool to get in, as I think that step stool fits in with the great prop. I have been perfecting it for so long I just don't understand why you don't like it.
:rotf: Just kidding that is not me, of like me in any way. It almost looks like someone had some money to but the prop and figured they were now a great illusionist. Jason |

Anyone posting here willing to put their routine out on the web for the rest of the world to critique?

Terry,
I think any magician who has a website with videos and photos on there, has put their lively hood for the world to critique..... Cheers

If your not willing to get feedback on your work then your not willing to improve your skill. If all I did was things that looked good to me and not ask fellow magicians for their opinion and expeirience then we would all be poorer magicians for it. IMHO if your going to perform anything in public you better be ready to be critiqued. Its part of the game.

Come on, guys! It wasn't THAT bad. You pick on this guy's presentation, but someone tell me how David Blaine's "Hey, wanna see sumthin'? Lookit, lookit" is any better. Besides, the girl is kinda cute.
I'll tell you one thing, there is probably more work out there for this type of act -- the "traditional" magician that people expect to see -- than some freak poking things into his body, or pulling bloody coins and threads from under his skin. |

And how many people pick on Blaine's presentation and persona? No one has said that there is anything wrong with "This Type of Magic", but the presentation was...Trite, overdone and cheesy.
I am all for a traditional magic act, but a performer needs to have their own personality inserted into the stuff they do. You need to do more than open up the book that details how to do the illusion, gives the patter and presentation, and then go and do it verbatim. Ya gots ta have style. Gwyd |
