I have the coolest small size parrot. He absolutely loves popping up out of my dove pan. I'm interested in using him with one of the many dove in balloon effects, but am a little worried about his reaction to a balloon bursting. Anyone out there use one? And how far away is the bird when the balloon breaks?
Thanks

A lot depends on which balloon to dove effect you are using. If it's pagoda type production, the balloon will be long gone before the dove makes it's appearance. If from a dove in balloon tray, it's kind of simultaneous. In any event, I wouldn't worry about the birds reaction. It's just another loud noise.

This is physics 101, the bird is at the centre of the explosion, so all the sound is travelling away from it, LOL. No, seriously I've been doing the tray type effect with doves and a cockatiel for 15 years, they have never exhibited any anxiety or reaction. It is a very effective effect, and with time the tray gets even faster and totally unseen by audience. A word of caution on balloons, fully inflated 11 inch is best, bigger ones or uninflated do not always burst and it ruins the effect somewhat, in fact right now I'm on 5 inch ones which are working really well. Also the pin that bursts the balloon on mine has just come loose finally after all this time, trying to figure out how to make it firm again as this is a potential source of failure to burst ballooon. I have replaced the black cloth of mine only once in about 5000 shows, it needs it again, as the underside gets worn out, you need a drill and pop riveter to fix this problem, as well as scissors.

I've been using the tray for years. The bird will be 100% safe of the bursting balloon. The noise is slightly frightening. The bird will get use to it. If you live near a magic shop, make sure your parrot will fit in the tray. Another method is the Dove Streamer. I don't know if your parrot will fit inside it. As for the pooping, he will poop anywhere. The Dove Pan will be the easiest to clean. Don't leave him inside of the area for a long time. I set my animals up inside of the props behide the back drops right before I perform it. If your small parrot can wear a dove harness (dyed to match your dove's color), you might want to produce him differently
