Janus, Lee Earls Script may not be something you want to use at every reading, but the idea behind it is very clever and teaches an important skill every reader should have. What do you think is so funny about it? It is funnier to think you should interpret every tarot card the same way for everyone, which is what I'm getting you are trying to say to me in a non-direct way. Or more likely you don't use tarot at all. Are you more of a bunny out of the hat type of magician? Hmm, on second thought animals are probably too much for you.

I'd bet there are as many answers to what cards mean and how to read them as there are readers. First, it is important to understand the "stock" meaning of your cards when you begin, because then and ONLY then can you infer meanings from surrounding cards, position and orientation. In time you will "know" that what a card is telling you is a valid as what the "experts" say it means.
Everytime I get a new deck I read it's meanings but in time in a reading I may get an impression that has no connection to the stock meaning. Reversal isn't always opposite. As harsh as it seems, this sudden rush of wisdom you get is probably common. A few times into my first excursions I thought I had it down, now 20 years later, I am just about ready to write my book and give lectures. Hold off, jot down notes, make notes of readings you've done collect them, re read them and compare them over the following weeks and months and then after a few years you'll have a note book that you can use as a base for your book. You'll be able to use real examples as explanations and find areas that need work and polish. You'll have something that you'll not only be proud of, but will probably sell better then something from a perceived rookie. "For it shows things that were, and things that are, and things that yet may be. But which it that he sees, even the wisest cannot always tell" ~Galadriel "A heretic is a man who sees with his own eyes." |

Waldo,
Please listen to Tony. He knows what he is talking about. I would love to read your book, after you have had a few years of experience using it your self. Working with living breathing people. I am sure you will find it to be a wonderfully satisfying path. It’s your to take. 7th Son. We are talking about readings. Let’s not think of them as making balloon animals:). |

It's very easy for an inexperienced Tarot reader to bask in the glory of his success. You are not a real pro until you have failed at readings miserably and still come out on top. Also, there are a lot of very weird things you'll experience too, but you have to experience them for yourself, and just trust us on this, you really do need, I would say at LEAST 5 years experience doing tarot readings to really become an authority, almost like going to college. I would say this goes for mentalism or magic.
this is not a recipe that you come upon, and could accidentally come upon instantly, say, creating a really good hamburger. It's a feel, mentalism is an art that takes years to develop. |

If you want to write a book write it.
Who's going to publish it? Who's going to review it? Who's going to sell it? But it is to try then not. Good Luck |

I just bought my first pack of Tarot cards on Saturday. I hope to have my first Tarot Ebook published by the end of next week.
It will be priced high to keep out the merely curious and the poor. Merely curious poor people don't have a chance. |

Waldo,
In my book on Tarot, (a book for "shut eyes" [Of which I am one, well, what Tony I called a squinter] to use a term) I teach a system of Tarot. Rather than assigning specific meanings, or stock phrases to the cards, the system teaches a basic matrix of what the numbers of the cards represent, and what the suits represents. Simple to learn but allows for a lot more variation than simply learning stock lines. You might find it more useful to explore the patterns within the Tarot and do something similar. After 34 years of doing readings, it is true that there are many turns of phrase that have written themselves and which I find myself repeating when the time is right- but they aren't stock lines so to speak. I think somewhere between 100 readings and 20 years you will reach a place where you have more to teach than to learn on some particular aspect of the Tarot or another, and when THAT time comes, enjoy sharig your knowledge, just keep learning. My tuppence worth for you...
part of my family were old cockney psychics, they actually had a subconcious system learnt, by that - they didn't learn it by books as such, it was "taught" by doing within the family, simple questions asked as a practice, and a spread used... so sometimes, when people say "learn a system", I often view them as these rigid stern structures that inhibit rather than encourage in some respects...and often those horrible little books you get with the tarot are next to useless... if it helps, I found these books superb for lots of reasons... tarotmania - now, off the top of my head, I cant remember the authors name...google it, its cheap, and very interesting... enrique enriquez's work - the marseille and invisible readings, and invisible tarot too...all superb...and he seems a great and humble guy too... jon riggs - non-BS, to the point and he was a reader for many years before he was a mentalist (in fact he's putting together a dvd set purely for readings) and finally - I'm going to name someone who is no longer with us (though if you are reading sir, hello!) Mark Lewis...dun-da-DAH! the scourge of many a magic forum, who is both very funny and very knowledgable if you "get him"...he does enjoy a wind up...anyway, he has a tarot video/dvd, which I learnt a fair bit from in a short period of time... if you are going to write a book on it, I wish you luck, but I truly you hope you don't write it til you make regular money from reading, and get good feedback from your clients over a good couple of years...otherwise, well..it just may not sell - and I'd rather someone who studies these kinds of things do well, then not... I would also say, just go for a few readings yourself in person - see how they go...if you are into mentalism too, well, at least if anyone does try and pull a fast one you know what to avoid... good luck..but please, take your time...

They sometimes know all the literature but don't really know what WORKS in real life. 2)People who 'reveal' one card during the course of an effect and give a reading 3)People who try to remember all the meanings from a book. This is impossible so it is generally a waste of time 4)People who read every millimeter of the card and give opposite meanings to every section. They hope that 'something' will make what is called a 'hit' 5)People who give a 2 minute reading during the course of a card trick and think this makes them a reader 6)A few people like yourself who understand that you read the CLIENT not the cards. The client's facial expressions, reactions and words will give you more info than any book. Open-eye or shut-eye. (I also include some pumping and I'm sure you do). This is the only way that you can give MEANINGFUL, 20 minute+ readings that will make you a good name. This is ONLY IMVeryHO and is only of slight importance BECAUSE I know some readers who give absolute DIABOLICAL predictions:- You will win the lottery when you are 40 ( I was then 45) You will have 2 children (The person had 5 already) And these people still make money. But they have to invest in advertising because most of their clients don't come back, The good money comes from returns and referrals. Amazingly, these bad readers do have some steady clients. Why this happens is noted in some of the internet sites exposing CR :) |
