I've just noticed a considerable jump in the number of clicks I'm paying for on ad words. For those who don't know, everytime you click on a sponsered link in Google, I pay a small fee.
But here is the interesting thing, there has not been a jump in the number of bookings from ad words. In other words, I'm paying twice as much for the same number of bookings. Ad words has a big problem with their client's competition clicking on paid ads to drive people away from the service. I.e. other magicians mighe be clicking on my advertisment over and over in order to hurt my business! |

I noticed the same thing about the rates. Some even went from .10 to 1.00 per click. I get a few click throughs, but not many and I've yet to get a booking from one. However, it is a pretty cheap way to advertise if you can make it effective.
Thanks, Richard |

It WAS effective for a while. But its like leaving a bunch of business cards lying around for some to steal!

The click through rates swing wildly depending on the day of the week, holidays etc. Make sure you use the budgeting features or google can really bite you.
This has really taken off in the last year. When I started with GoTo, (they became Overture, that then became Yahoo Search Marketing or something,) you could lock in a lot of search terms for just 5 cents. Now some of these same terms are $3 -$5 per click. And there is of course other magicians ramping up your charges! Would they do that? You bettcha. Another dubious practice is bidding on other magicians names as the keywords and using that to trigger your own advert. Would they do that? ... |

I've heard of magicians listings the names of other magicians as keywords for his adwords AND also had the words hidden on his site.
You search for Joe Blogs and this other guys site would come up! |
