Hi,
I'm a new member, and have been looking around the Café for quite a while now. I've been performing magic for several years (ten, eleven) and have become very interested and fascinated in the field of mentalism in the last couple of years, my first introduction having been (surprise, surprise) Mr Osterlind's superb Mind Mysteries. Now, the real issue: I'm planning a mentalism act for a rather large party on June 17. I have six routines, most of which I've done in the past, with a couple of new things, material basically from Osterlind and Annemann (with some touches of my own). I plan on finishing with a Book Test effect that is rather new to me. Now, I would very much like to hear (read) some of you more experienced mental performers' opinions on wether the revelation of the chosen word would be more impressive if I do it as a mind reading effect after the selection, or as a prediction (I've been thinking about writing the prediction on a slate at the beginning of the routine preceding the Book Test routine, and leaving it in full view back towards the audience until the word is to be revealed). I think this is an important point, as the word revelation will be my grand finale, but am uncertain as to which way of revelation will create more of an impact. So, to make a long story short ("Too late," I hear you cry!): prediction, or mind reading on the spot? Thanks, Kalle from Finland |

Are you shure you want to finish your show with a Book Test?
Also never finish or start your act with a new untested routine, move it to somewhere else in the act so you can test it and finish with your strongest routine. Manny |

Thank you for your comments. I shall do a search. And I have a method that I'm pleased with, so I don't really want a new one.
I have tested the routine, with the method of revealing the word as a mind reading effect, with a very powerful reaction. I'm just thinking it might be effective to finish a show of mind reading and influence demonstrations with a prediction of the future. But then again I'm not sure. |

If you had them choose a book from other books (as opposed to say, giving them a book at the start), a prediction before might look good. This way, of ALL the books they could have chosen, you "knew" they were going to choose this book and choose the word/picture they chose. Does that make sense?
