We really don't need it taken off..I saw it, and I still don't get how it works..I have no idea how it doesn't just reflect the wings of the stage??

Depends where you're standing. Didn't you ever learn in science class that angle of incidence = angle of reflection?
You said yourself in the previous post that it pretty much reveals the effect. This is a cool illusion, one of my favourites to watch. This type of exposure should be avoided.

So....this means that you can't have the audience to far in the left and right corners unless your backdrop, whicch is being reflected, is very wide, right?

Gentlemen, we should discuss this somewhere else. Please keep in mind that there are quite a few lurkers visiting the Café every day trying to fish for secrets.
Magic is already suffering enough from the youtube virus. Thanks.

Sorry if I do have to ask, but is the spinning of the box not an addition that was done by Jim Steinmeyer (Time and Space Illusion)? So it´s not the original Million Dollar Mystery.

Yes. Luis performs "Time and Space", which is Jim's version of the million dollar mystery. It uses the same basic method, but with a genius twist that allows the box to be rotated.

How is it that we as a community cry foul if a photo like this is published by a non-magician or a blatant exposer (Valentino, etc.) , but when one of "our" people does it then it gets a free pass? Anyone who knows what it is they are buying don't need the photo posted on Magic Auction.. If they do need photos to ascertain the condition of the prop then they can privately contact the seller. There is no reason for a photo on Magic Auction to expose methods. Magic Auction site is an open website that anyone can access and it will be in the Google Image Search cache practically forever unless Magic Auction makes an effort to have it removed from Google's database. David I think you are wrong! As you can see P heart's version is not as nice and Gaughns and it is important that you see it! Look at the one splashes makes there is a difference and as a consumer you need to be able to see that! As you knwo in the past when magic auction sets people up with the seller they try and undercut magic auction. And if they can just request it whats the big difference? They have to sit and send an e-mail to know the secret?

My point was not that a legitimate buyer should have information withheld about the item they are interested in purchasing , but that if Magic Auction is going to be a web site that can be accessed by anyone and will be cached by Google, then I don't think they should post photos which expose the methods of the illusions being sold . |

You have your point but if some one is googling Million Dollar Mystery you really think they will not find out how its done without Magic Auction? Seek and you should find. If someone is looking for it they will find it, it might just be 2 more mouse click further away, MDM is not a new illusion, if this was say Suspended Animation then that's a different story, that's why splashes has a pic of their MDM tube because it looks great.
I get what your saying but this day in age if you really want to know its not that hard to findout. I am now way saying that your wrong, you actually have a point as I think about it, if magic auction would keep the 'exposed' picture of the illusion for those that request it, then it would not be googled as easy. Ya it would be nice if they kept the method out of site; however, it is a magic auction not a general auction. First of all do you come out and say..Hey everyone I am now going to perform the million dollar illusion! LOL, I really hope you don't do that! Heck I have a hard enough time trying to look something up when I just know some of the name let alone just an explanation of the performance. Also, I showed the picture to my wife and she basically said it was a stage. She had no idea about anything else in the picture or what it might be used for.

Can we possibly use this kind of illusion in a shopping mall situation?
Or I should look for something else? Thanks for replying me.

Shopping mall - no way. This illusion requires a stage. Other than the Asrah, this illusion requires more stage management than anything else I can think of.

Gentlemen,Gentlemen! As a retired Pro (Las Vegas etc.) Some of my dearest friends have used this great illusion, it has been around, since before most of you were born! The last time I saw it when Harry and Gaye did it at Christmas show at the Tropicana, I was backstage at the time and loved Harry's comment when he vanished from the Santa's little house.,Recently I did all the costumes for "The Magic of Love" the illusion show from Sinapore, They used it and it was mind boggling. Yes, whoever said Walter Jeans is correct, he had the U.S. Patent (Fergus Greenwood) No.1,760,842, Do your research Gentlemen, and you'll be surpised at what you find. And to all my friends out there who thought I was dead, I'm doing great! In fact I am going into the musical Young Frankstein, in Jan. Come and see me in N.Y. Rai

He filed a patent application for it in 1928 and was granted US patent No. 1,760,842 in May 1930. The patent documents are available online via Google's patent service. One point of note is that the documents show the patent was assigned to Howard Thurston, so presumably Greenwood came up with the idea and sold it to Thurston and the patenting process was part of the deal. |

I've read that Greenwood worked under the name Gustave Fasola and that he died in 1929. If that's correct then it looks as if he never had a chance to benefit from his labours on the Million Dollar Mystery as he filed only shortly before he died and the patent was not finalised until 1930 (although I guess it's possible Thurston might have paid him something when the application was filed). |

Tell you what, why not provide lurkers with a picture too. We don't want any of the real secrets of magic to be unaccessable to the merely curious do we?
