Hi
I saw a guy dressed like a wizard and he was sitting on the street cross legged manipulating crystal-type balls He used between one and five balls He was rolling them around his hands and forearms At times the balls gave the illusion that they were floating just clear of his hands Other times they seemed to be floating at his finger tips He did not juggle the balls although in one move he held one ball in each hand and flicked them across I managed to speak to him and he told me that the balls were 'Juggling Balls' and that he had been doing his 'act' for ten years Can anybody tell me:- Is there a name for this type of performance The name of the crystal type balls The name and scource for any DVDs, tapes or books Any links or help of any sort is greatly appreciated Cheers TJ |

It's called Contact Juggling...
http://www.contactjuggling.org is a good place to start. See also anything by Michael Moschen (who orginated this art) Prof. Piper

And the balls are Acrylic.
If you had bothered to read some of the previous threads you needn't have bothered with this one. Nigel
I knew a man who kept saying "pliers, pincers, scissors". He was speaking in tongs.

Nigel Nigel, I couldn't search because I didn't have any keywords Now that I know, I'll search the trade/sale section for some items that I can afford I didn't know that the balls were acrylic, I thought they were crystal/glass Thanks for that info TJ |

Some CJ's (Contact jugglers) prefer Acrylic...Some prefer glass/crystal...It's really down to personal preference or finances...I prefer the heavier glass/crystal variety...While they ARE expensive, I like the weight... So you know, I practice with an un-cut, 4 POUND, polished Geod (sp?)... Nothing like a heavy ball to build up your finger strength. Plus, I can pretty much CRUSH your hand if shake hands! Prof. Piper

Hi
I'm a newbie but thanks to the Prof., I'm getting on track I'm practicing some of the moves from the clips on the internet sites and I have sent for a book from Amazon The balls I saw seemed to be slightly bigger than a tennis ball Would this be a 3inch ball? Looking at the clips on the net, I realise that the guy I saw had a 'style' This is the type of presentation I am interested in The ball remained in the one spot and he only used his hands and fore-arms in flourishy moves As he was sitting cross legged, there was little body movement Just slow, snakey movements of his hands, upper body and shoulders This gave the impression that the ball was floating in space The effect was very hypnotic Can anybody make any suggestions? The name of any good movements? Hints on practice? Names of any good books or DVDs which show this type of presentation? Also, the cost of the balls seem high? Particularly if you get them mailed Any money saving hints on balls, books or DVDs? Any cheap scources of the above in the UK? Thanks for the help so far Cheers TJ |
