The chick is lifeless
There are still 4 eggs in the cage - two new ones, and two that should hatch within the next day if fertile. |

Mark, newborn babies don't move. Give it a day or two and you should see some movement. Don't touch the baby or lift the parents to see it for a few days.

Baluk, Congrats on the newbies. Just let the Doves handle the newborns for a while. As much as you may want to look, and stare (which is fine - Just don't touch), just let the doves handle the first several weeks. You'll notice that within a VERY short time that those little newborns will sprout up quick. They grow SO FAST, and kind of get a funky look with feathers almost everywhere but their beaks. Have fun!! Looks like you are going to be having quite a few doves soon.

Just as a time line, I have two new babies that about 4 weeks old. Except for a few missing feathers on top of their heads, it's hard to tell them apart from the parents without looking under the wings or at their feet. That's how fast they grow up. In just a short time, that little ugly marble with turn into a full size bird. It amazes me everytime I have little ones.

When I went to my breeder to take my first look at Jack, He was only about 2 weeks old, and he was very tiny, and his beak was really thick (I guess because of his age)... Then I returned 2 weeks later, and he was pretty much normal dove size, and the beak was regular... LOL! They do grow up very fast! -Vinnie PS... Congrats, Mark! Can't wait to see the pics! |
