Hello guys
I'm trying to obtain a 2nd hand copy of this book, but I'd like to know the range of price this book is worth so I will not pay $500 for it like what happened to Ricky Jay's book... thanks! |

You can still get it new from Denny and Lee for $50.00 - as of about two weeks ago. So do not pay more than that.

As for Ricky Jay's overpriced book Cards as Weapons, I feel the book is hardly worth its original price of $8.95, but people keep paying the inflated, ridiculous price for it. I have the book and am hanging on to it only because of its value, surely not its contents.. Rennie

This was one of my first book purchases, and its something I regularly return to. If you can get a copy, then do so

Adam,
Read a couple of the previous posts and you'll find your answer.

Yeah, I checked all those places before posting the message, can't find it anywhere.
If anyone has any other ideas, let me know, otherwise I'll just have to wait for the next eBay auction. |

A lot of people are talking about this book. Some publisher should say: let's reprint this.
It can be a goldmine. Frans |

I just bought this book for $80. Well worth the investment. Most effects of the 122 included are written in 1-3 pages each and is JAM-PACKED with gems.
The effects are virually self-working, or at least knowing a false shuffle, double lift or any of the other common basic sleights that you should know. There is even an alphabetical sleight glossary in its appendix where Nick explains how to do these sleights. You don't need another book to perform these effects. It is well-concised and complete. The effects are very easy to perform (That's Nick's style), but have a powerful kicker. Even if you are not going to use a particular effect, you will definitely adjust it to fit your own style (i.e.: He may use 2 Queens, but you rather patter about 2 Jokers). My opinion is that if you can get this for under $100... Buy It. I doubt this will be re-released and has now fallen into the "lost books", like Williamson Wonders and Impossibilia, which I had to buy while Out of Print ($$$). I wish I can tell which books will end up in this category. I personally feel Mike Powers: POWER PLAYS will be 1 such book. Buy "POWER PLAYS" NOW if you don't already have it at its regular retail price, before you will be wishing you did and not spending nearly $100 for it later on). Save up your money, because buying 3 books in 3 months is equal to 1 book (THIS Book) in 3 months. Allocate your money. I cannot reccommend this book (Nick Trost's Book) much more than that. It is worth every penny and is only going to get more and more expensive on eBay or elsewhere as it will only get rarer and rarer.... Who really would want to part with it??.... NOT Me, for sure.
You know how to make God laugh?........... Tell him your plans!!!

I am fortunate to say that this book was sort of an "accidental" purchase for me. Two years ago, I ordered "The Collected Works of Alex Elmsley II" (which is also out of print now) from magicproshop, but instead of sending me the book I requested, they accidentally shipped "The Card Magic of Nick Trost"! And after I notified them, they sent a free copy of "The Collected Works of Alex Elmsley II." How lucky was I? I don't know if this type of thing will ever happen to me again...

I spoke with the sales department at L&L publishing last month. They have no plans of reprinting this book at least for this year they said.

Becaue of his withdrawl from magic, a reprint seems to move further away from ever happening. If you want this book, you should do whatever you have to do to get your hands on it. It's getting harder to find a copy these days, and the price is going up with each sale. |
