I saw the pics of of both Whitchapel and Manhattanville on the outlaw site. Both books look great! I am anxious to get my hands on Manhattanville ASAP as I see from the Website it ties in nicely with Homicide U.S.
Rick, stop teasing me! ... Send soon! Best, Bobby |

Manhattanville is shipping! It's only 4 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. Easily carried in a shirt pocket for walkaround.
Check out the pics on the Outlaw website. I know I sound like a broken record but...I'll say it again. Every Female customer of the pawn shop book is a murder victim in the Homicide U.S. book. They are an instant force if you have Homi U.S. or Homi U.K.! Thanks guys, Rick |

I haven't had much time to play with this yet but I can say that I already can see that this thing should be a work horse for me.
The Book itself is, as is the case with the others in this series, aged beautifully and appears to be over 50 years old. The size is perfect for those of us who want to have something like this with us most of the time. It fits inside a regular shirt pocket without even peeking over the top! I love that. Inside, the entries are still very easy to read, even tho the book itself is small. The workings are made perfectly clear and are very easy. Those who have Homicide etc will especially enjoy because you are already used to the workings. If this is your first purchase from this series from outlaw effects, you will find it VERY EASY to do. Of course there is always the Outlaw forum as well for tips on additional handling etc. I am sure now that this has started hitting mailboxes there will be a bunch of ideas posted there. Also, Mahattanville is connected to Homicide.. so if you want to do an extended routine linking it to Homicide... go right ahead. However, this little guy will play perfectly well all by itself. I am anxious to give it a real world workout soon. If you've ordered already, check your mail.... I just got mine a couple hours ago. Hats off to Outlaw effects! Best to all, Bobby |

I just received this as the final part of my complete Outlaw US package deal. After reading, and re-reading the accompanying notes, with book in hand,I soon began to realize just how diabolical Manhattanville is.
A lot of thought and planning went into the production of this item. The artistic authenticity is immediately recognized as soon as one removes the book from it's packaging. I happen to be a collector and aficianado of old thing's(except for women) .I collect antiques to antiquities. So I have a fairly good eye for authentically old items. This book really looks aged, with the exception of the rather neatly typed entries within it's covers. This is not a negative however.Mr.Roth is a great thinker/planner,and I would bet that he planned it this way ..so each performer..can personalize their book, through penciled in comments,cross-out's,semi-erasure's etc. Another thing I learned today is that Manhattanville is an actual section in the 125th St.area of NYC!I have found that this attention to details is indicitive of Outlaw product's. I was also delightfully surprised to see my own place of birth Sunnyside,NY included. With this excellent and unique booktest it is not difficult to learn the necessary information, however, this is just too good to rushed into real world performance. The individually storytelling possible with Manhattanville is limitless, and that is without even considering it's crossover to Homicide. My personal plan is to learn this cold and routine it thouroughly for maximum impact. This is of course a good principle to follow for all new effect's,but especially for this one..It's like a fine wine ..sip and savor.I will give a real world review in a week or two. Best. Rich |

Manhattenville
It arrived in the mail today. A copy of the log book from the 125th Street Pawn Shop in New York in 1950. I love old books, and this one is a true find. It contains all of the transactions that occurred that year, hundreds of people pawning various objects for money, some were redeemed, others not. It is a marvelous little book! Outlaw has taken the method they developed for HOMICIDE and incorporated it into this little gem of a book. You can hand out the book, an entry is selected and read, a free choice of over 120 transactions, and you immediately start describing what occurred. Not just the item that was left, the money that was received, or even the transaction number, not even if the item was redeemed or not, but you also talk about the person that left the item. There is even the ability to link to the HOMICIDE book and describe the person's fate. This has taken the principles Rick Roth developed in his twisted and creative mind for what I call his book test of death and moved them from the dark world of murder to the light of day and something that we can all relate to in one way or another. This is a product that anyone can use. (You can link it to HOMICIDE if you wish, extending the performance and turning it to a darker piece, or play it as it is for any audience.) Rick's books are not really book tests as we know them in today's market. They go beyond and a step to the side from current thinking. With these you can reproduce psychic phenomena as depicted in the book, movie, and television show, THE DEAD ZONE. A person reads a section of the book, with just a touch, you are the shop keeper, the customer, or in the case of the HOMICIDE books, the victim. You describe in vivid detail everything that occurred. The method is easy to learn, but very clean. There is no explanation other than you have either read their minds, or you saw what happened. The books are pieces of art, carefully crafted and aged to perfection. And the instructions are clear and give examples for performance. If you are looking for an ultra-clean, easy to master performance piece that looks like real mind reading or psychic activity, then buy this. Tony |

Well, I had my first performance with "Manhattanville"... A couple friends were over this afternoon and the little book was laying on the coffee table. It's authentic look caught their eyes and one picked the book up and said, "what's this?"....
Boy, was this a lot of fun to use! It's amazing the Amount of Information you can deliver with the smallest of input from your spectator. I could even give them the digits of the loan or ticket number without getting one single digit from them.... I have all the other books in the series...and I have enjoyed them all and have used them all...but I really believe this may be my favorite yet! This will get even more use by me because, while the others in the series are indeed small when compared to full size books, this one is even smaller and I'm a huge fan of that as it makes so easy to have with me. Also, for $45 bucks I feel like you get a lot of bang for the buck! I for one appreciate those trying to keep the cost down a bit... Best, Bobby |

Just got mine today. Tony and BobbyK have said best already. This is great in so many ways. Size, concept, appearance, originality. There is nothing else out there like it. As well as the other books in the series. It oozes with mystery and genre, to say the least. This is a classic.

What really gets me about this effect is the way that it "ties" into the other book, Homicide. It allows you to go very "deep" into the scene of the crime and beyond. I wonder if the inventor here realizes what can be done with this concept. It almost feels like this can take on a life (an intelligence) all it's own. It is that synchronistic. Kind of eerie......!

For sure - and then I'm waiting to look up the pawn shop items to see what sort of spin-off effects can occur ala 'Friday the 13th" TV show.... e.g. wouldn't it be cool to have an item like a Crystal Skull revolve around murder, ghosts, and then a Balsamo / Necromancy act summoning the murdered spirit to fill in even more details... don't get me started... Roth is a genius and this is one of the very rare mentalism effects that already can be played Bizarre to the hilt!

Just been informed no Crystal Skulls - but what items there are are still good enough to weave tales of ancient terror!
(Plus if its like the Homicide book - a few penciled additions for interesting items might be in order... the 7th bean trick might tie in......hoho... must run to mailbox!!..>DARN<....!)

Hang in there Doc.
I want to hear more on the Bizarre theme with this. |

I'm sure Dr. Spector can create a bizarre theme from out of just about any effect (sponge bunnies?)
Manhattanville is a pawn shop log it is very normal looking, the items are exactly what you would expect to find. (no glowing skulls or severed hands in a jar) Both Homicide and the pawn shop books are "real world" items. Since the effect itself can vary with the performer I'm sure Dr. Spector will be able to create the "spin" he wants to get. What I'm trying to say without seeming rude to the Dr. is that this is not intended to be a bizarre book test at all. It is much more of a "psychic detective" test. The bottom line is it is a very normal, innocent looking little book. Rick |

Roth is afraid I shall scare away the timid mentalists? ... no offense taken!
But with murder and death associated - it begs for a bizarre twist... especially the UK set (Whitechapel..c'mon...WHITECHAPEL... redjac calls).... so don't mind me... Once I got the goodies I'll go whip something up...I understand there are rings for example... once I figure out a way to have multiple effect "outs" for different objects I'll be ready to roll. I think Patrick Redford created a Sponge Bunnies from H*ll trick posted somewhere abouts in the Café.... ... I'd do Sponge Shoggoths.
