Can someone reference (video/book) the effects wherein several spectators take several different items from a container and the magician then tells which spec has which item in his/her pocket?
Appreciate any information You can pm me. Thanks, Howard

Well there are severel variations of this effect and it can be done using many different methods, for similia things see steven tuckers visa caberet and Looch's - the heist routine
also marc pauls 85pound question is similiar |

Tucker's original idea was the one that gave birth to many, many other "variations".
As for Looch's thinking, you can't go wrong!

The ultimate would be Equinox from Alakazam (if I do say so myself). Do a search on it here and see.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll start doing my research on all the sources suggested.
Meanwhile, after posting the original question, I saw the "Educating Archer" DVD and he has a great version which he calls "Nana's Box". It's performance only, though. Thanks, again, Howard

Hie,recently I saw an indonesian mentalist perform an effect as like this:
1)3 objects are taken out and put on a table,it`s mixed FREELY on the table. 2)The mentalist ask the spectator to pick one object and HE INSTRUCTs him to put it into a specified pocket(example,`put this in your left pocket) 3)He has a precdiction of where each item was and he can devine each item at one time. This is all done when the mentalist is wearing a blindfold and having his back turned away from the spectator.I`m familiar with visa cabaret and wayne dobson`s 3 choice, but in this effect, the mentalist never goes near the items. The only solution I have is electronics because the spectator wasn`t a stooge.Anyone has any sources of how this is done? Thanks -David-

Yeah that's the 85 pound question...
as for the indonesian mentalist, run a search for mental UFO you can accomplish the said effect using this |
davidlai308 Veteran user Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia 376 Posts |
Well,IMO I don`t think he used mental UFO,he never got near the spectator and devine the placement of the objects from a distance. The objects used were normal objects from the restaurant I work at,specifically,a knife, fork and a spoon.I`ll mail him shortly to see whether he`s willing to share his routine with me.
warm regards, David

All these may have evlolved from a trick from the 1840's called The Orange, Banana and Nut trick, according to MS Mahendra's take on it, published as "He Can't Read My Mind" by Abbotts.
Three specs are asked to select 3 objects while the Magician's back is turned, or he is out of the room. He directs the specs on 'how to concentrate' by using other objects as 'associated thoughts' He turns around and immediately tells which spec has which objects. In this version, it's all mental gymnastics, laid out pretty simple. No gaffs. Instructing the specs to put their chloice in certain pockets will allow you to tell what they have where (You might be confused by the bananna, but that depends on your choice of spectators, I suppose!)

I have Alain Nu`s XXX hardcore mentalism notes and in it is an effect called Nu-sense,it`s almost exactly as I described the mentalist from Indonesia doing.Except for the fact that you tell how the spectator is SUPPOSE to mix the items while the performer I`m talking about doesn`t give instructions on how to mix the items.
This effect originates from Bob Hummer`s Math monte. I`ve e-mailed the mentalist I was talking about and he was kind enough to share with me the principle involved. Will be hearing from him soon and no electronics were involved(quoting him) Best regards, David Lai

Wow!! more research to do.
The version on the Archer DVD was super clean. He was at least 8 ft from the box and the objects at all times and no fishing. He did do short "readings" about the spectators before revealing the objects but I'm sure this was just patter. I have been told by a mentalist that his system is a common electronic system which is very expensive. (???) Whatever it is, it was a beautiful routine. Any pro's out there who want to make an investment in your routines would be wise to research this one if you have not already. Thanks again for all the information. Howard

The most likely explanation of Archer's Nana's Box is that he uses Akana.
