OK...I've gotta know their story!
They are on all of Ammar's tapes.. They are on David Regal's tapes... They are on Bill Malone's tape... They are on Best of Jay Sankey... The same faces again and again in the audience... David - the african american guy John the over laugher the bald loungy looking guy and the young blond woman Who are they? What's the scoop? |

My guess is they are friends and neighbors of Louis Falanga, the owner of L&L Publishing.

Not really, they don't all work for L & L...but 3 of them do (Scotty, LeAnn and Renee). The rest are friends and guests of Louis'. David and John haven't been to any shoots in quite a while, but there are plenty of other regulars.

How long before David and John turn up on MINDFREAK?

L&L Publishing has such a cookie-cutter approach to making DVDs—not that most of the others don't too, but L&L trickles it all the way down to having the same spectators as well.
A: 'Have you performed this effect in front of a live audience?' B: 'Yeah, and I just floored the whole L&L crowd.' A: 'Well, the next step would be to try it out in front of a real audience.' My best, David Rowyn |

David, L & L has been and is very succesful with their approach to producing magic DVDs. You know what they say...if it ain't broke...
No matter what audience a magician performs in front of on a DVD...it won't be the same audience you perform for...so what does it matter??? I would never base my decision to purchase a DVD based on the audience, and regardless of whether a magician floored an audience or not, I will judge an effect based on how I like it and whether I think it will work for me... I think people put too much emphasis on the L & L audience sometimes (of course, I am biased) Sincerely, Kaylan |

Personally, I like the familiarity of the faces in the audience. It adds continuity to the overall personality of the L&L series. I hope they stick with it.

I find some of their antics a little bit distracting. Especially "John" who looks like he had eight too many martinis and just won 10 billion dollars when the magician has only performed a double lift. It's a bit too much.

I don't mind familiarity as much if the audience were a little more realistic, but I still think using the same backdrops, same music (sometimes), same setting, same exact audience members, etc makes for stale product packaging. And is it just me, or are the L&L DVDs far from DVD picture and sound quality? // |

It does get to be a bit much when you see the same people seeing yet another trick that they've seen 18 other magicians perform, yet they react like they're completely blown away.
I like David...he's great on the Bill Malone DVDs. And it's like watching 9 seasons of a sitcom...you see these people go through different wardrobes, hair styles, the whole thing. Almost brings a tear to my eye. Is John the one with the mustache who looks like he lives in a trailer and probably has a 5th grade education?
