OK, this message is really only for people that I can really count on. If that is not you, then please do not read any further.
Yesterday my wife and I got a letter from the IRS. Ever heard of a good letter from the IRS? In short, we made a mistake on our 2004 Income Tax filing. To the extent that we owe roughly $6,000. Due by July 1st 2006. So I need help. We are scramling to put together enough money to pay it off. Yes, I can make payments. But with the penalties and interest that the IRS charge, the payments are more than we can handle. So, I am reaching out to my friends. The people I can count on. If you can help out in any way, I would be grateful. I am not too proud to admit that I need help, and I do. My mailing address is 409 Gates Rd. Goodlettsville, TN 37072 I leave it to you. If you can help, please do. If not, please pray. Thanks to all. John Pyka |

Can't help financially at this point in my life, John, but you're in my prayers. I lost my house to the IRS after a business failure 14 years ago, and still ended up going bankrupt to my other creditors - the IRS is always first in line. They are no fun to deal with. But I found out there IS life after the IRS. Hold onto that thought. God bless.

John, $6,000 isn't that bad and the IRS is usually willing to put together some kind of a deal that won't kill you financially (been there, done that).
There are a number of low-to-no cost tax advocates available in the country - do a Google for them and make a few calls. Also, the IRS often will take something that they call a "settlement in compromise," which is a settlement for an amount less than the original. ASK. But NEVER admit anything when talking to them. JUST ASK questions. And then, ask for the answers in writing. It slows them down and often can stop any penalties while you are waiting for them to reply. But NOT ALWAYS. I am NOT a tax attorney or accountant, so take this as nothing more than an experienced layman's view. Best of luck to you on this. However, for $6,000, they are not going to get too ugly. It's not worth it for them to do so. They will usually bargain. And remember - hell hath no fury like a bureaucrat scorned - so BE NICE when you talk to them. On the PHONE. Don't go IN unless you absolutely have to and ONLY if you have SOMEONE to LEGALLY represent you. Trust me on that. Your friend, Lee Darrow, C.H.
