Bill Switch Idea
An issue that I have here in New Zealand is that the currency is all different colours and different sizes. So a bill switch to another denomination using a TT is not ideal. To remove a persons bill from play during a routine using a TT is limited to a straight vanish. But I would prefer to be able to build the routine up more, prior to making the bill appear in a …[insert your favourite place here] I like the counterfeit money plot that Bill Malone uses on his "On the Loose" series, and have come up with this alternative, to get around the different colour and size issues with the currency here. Preparation Laser copy, or, scan and colour print, a bank note. But only colour copy or colour print one side of the note, so on the other side it is left completely blank and white. Cut out the note to remove all white edges. Fold up the bank note using your favourite bill switch method, but ensure you fold it up with the printed side out. This way when you do the switch it looks clean. Note: You will have to prepare all denominations prior to a performance because you may not know what denomination an audience member will give you. You should have ample time to retrieve the correct bill whilst the person is signing the bill. Routine After having the bill signed, build up on the premise that the audience member has given you a counterfeit bill, and the only way to test it to see if it is counterfeit or not is to do a simple compression test. Explain that counterfeit bills to not stand up to simple physical pressures the same way genuine notes do. Fold up the bill and using a bit of acting, squeeze the bill as hard as you can in full view. Then perform your favourite switch, and unfold the prepared bill, but only display the printed side to the audience. Turn to your volunteer, and say something like “It appears I miss judged you, you are not as shady as you look !” (Note: This will depend on how you initially structured the counterfeit theme). But do a double take on the bill, and say, “Wait a minute, what’s going on here!!” Slowly turn the bill around to display the blank side. Explain that the bill must be removed from circulation immediately From here you can simple tear up the bill, or you can go to your pocket with the hand not holding the bill and retrieve a lighter to burn the “counterfeit” bill, this will allow you to perform a ditch. From here you have their bill to do what you like with. Warren |
