Does anybody know of any people who will make custom coin gaffs in the U.K.?
I feel sure I came across a website a couple of years ago but don't have any details. Alexander. |

I always assumed that http://www.cupsandballs.nl was a Netherlands site, not UK, especially as the date field reads "Maart", not March.

Hi all, thanks for the input. I sent out e-mails to various 'gaffers' and got a variety of answers. I was looking to get an ex****ed ***** for a £5 coin. (£5 coin is about the same size as a silver dollar, it's not in regular circulation but is legal tender in the U.K.- they tend to be released for special occasions)
In the end I went for Jamie Schoolcraft. He quoted a price I was very happy with. |

Hi all,
I got my gaff a couple of weeks ago and have been working on routines to use with my other 'big' coin stuff. I'm very pleased with what I got. The service from Jamie was very good, he was friendly and answered my e-mails promptly. I don't have much experience with custom gaffs so can't give an expert opinion on the quality but it is certainly better than my smaller 'generic' gaffs (better coverage of the side and less distortion of the face) and looks pretty good to me. It didn't cost any more than if I had wanted to get a silver dollar, in fact it was cheaper. The bottom line is that I got a gaff made which I wasn't able to get as a standard item from dealers. This was the reason behind me needing a custom gaff in the first place. Overall I feel generally very chuffed! (I'm not sure if 'chuffed' is a pan-atlantic word, in case it isn't, it means pleased and self-satisfied!) Thanks for the advice and posts guys, Alexander |
