I've been seeing a few magicians starting some new manipulative acts with a video screen and have come up with some ORIGINAL ideas to use. Anyone have any experience making the video tracks? Whats the best way to do them? What software do you use?

I'm guessing that you want to keep the cost to a minimum (free, if possible). This question is WAY outside of my area of expertise, but I think anyone trying to answer it will need to know the answers to a few questions. What Operating System are you running (Windows, Linux, Mac)? Which Operating System(s) do you want to target for playback? Does the finished product need to play on more than one Operating System? Do you care about compression? Do you need a sound track as well? If so, does the sound need to be synchronized with the video?
I run Linux and have done very little video editing. In fact, I've only just started playing around with it, trying to get some nice videos of my magic (nothing to share, yet). I settled on Cinelerra. There are two versions (forks) out there. I started with the Heroine Warrior version, but had some problems. Then, I switched to the other version, and the problems went away. However, I am NOT necessarily attributing my better success to having switched versions. It could be very well be something in my Linux installation, my greater experience, dumb luck, or some combination of these factors. Here's everything I know (which, as I stated above, isn't much) about video editing on the cheap: Windows:
Linux:
Mac:
I hope some experts chime in on this post. If not, try starting the thread again with a title that contains the word "video", like "Video Manipulation". Seth

I am operating Windows
I have Windows Movie Maker It will have a synchronized sound track To keep things simple, the entire video will play off of a laptop computer screen (the same one it was created on) That will be plugged into speakers to avoid synchronization issues. Derek Merdinyan |
