I have been looking in the Tarbell books and have read up on some cigarette routines but am having difficulty following. Does anyone have any other routines they would like to share or any video clips that would help me out?

You might look into “Keith Clarks’ Encyclopedia of Cigarette of Magic”. It has everything you every wanted to know about cigarette manipulation and magic.

Or, perhaps, you should just buy the Keith Clark booklet “Celebrated Cigarettes”. It is a complete club act and probably just what you are looking for. The booklet costs a big $7.00 from Silk King Studios http://www.silkkingmagic.com/Keith%20Cla......0Act.htm

Also, if you can find them, Tom Mullica has a three-tape/DVD series out just on Cigarette Magic.
The artist formally known as Mumblepeas!

Actually I like the cigarette work attributed to Chanin.
I forget which volume.
Frank Garcia did a similar, muli-production routine on a "Stars of Magic" video entitled 'Cigarama'.

As Harry suggests, Keith Clark's "Encyclopedia of Cigarette of Magic” has tons of ideas to explore.

Cigarette magic is no more interesting. More and more people every day stop smoking and this kind of magic will deplease most of the producers. Also you can never work to children and at all venues that have smoke/fire detectors. Cigarette magic is unpractical, old looking and extremely not esthetical. We have so many nice types of accessories so why don't you use something else? Candles? Coins? CD,s? Balls? Think about it.
Best regards

Well I disagree with you Soleil.
I am manipulationg with cigarettes and I have very big reactions.
No mather where you show your skils at the stage or close up.
If you are smoker then it is even better, because if someone ask you to show some magic and you have no cards or coins. You can show something with cigarettes.

I sugest you to find some material of Tom Mullica.

Best,
Nick

Although your point is relevant if performing for children or in non-smoking environments, you are totally off-base when it comes to smokers and the social environment that surrounds them. Performing magic in exchange for cigarettes is how I "cut my teeth" in public performing, and doing cigarette magic for smokers is some of the most fun I've ever had doing magic. What's kind of surprising is how few smokers have ever even seen any good cigarette magic before, so calling it "old looking" borders on the absurd. Part of its power is that it can come across as extremely impromptu even when it isn't.

Doing magic in the "outcast" smoking social circles is probably the thing I miss most about being a smoker. Smile

Midwest_Magicians: I think it was in the book, The Best Of Slydidi, that I learned some of my favorite cigarette stuff. Slydini really is one of the great masters in magic and everything in there is good.

It won't let me edit my last post. I wrote, "The Best of Slydidi" Smile, but of course I meant, "The Best of Slydini"

I dare to disagree. I do have whole cigarette routine, that I do every single time. I get good reactions.

Another vote for Keith Clark's Encyclopedia. Mind numbing amount of info, even if the plates are a little hard to flip back and forth from.Smile As for cigarette magic being outdated or uninteresting, I've found that audiences are held rapt by anything that appears dangerous. Cigarettes are on fire. Hence, danger. I know some people get offended by the sight or smell of a smoker, but cigarette magic carries with it an air of elegance and sophistication. Being as smoking is an adult thing, cig magic is ADULT magic.
Just my 2 cents. Which won't even buy a cigarette these days. Heh.
Cheers!!!

I never got into cigarette magic but do enjoy watching it. Actually the only act that got me a little nautious was Cardini's cig act. I occasionally light up and enjoy anything from a cheap Sport cigarette to a Dunhill. But the overwhelming production and smoking of cigs by Cardini will have you running out the door. His production sequence is amazing and they appear just as quickly as he drops them to the floor - boom! boom! boom! boom! and yet another and another! Although a silent act, he looked like he was about to scream "Please stop!" but they kept coming!

Even if I had his incredible skills, I don't know if I could do that act very often. If asked where I was going with three cartons of cigarettes under my arm, I could reply: "Off to work"....

I thought I had cigarette nicotine and tar dripping from my lips just watching him!

Smoke 'em if ya got 'em...
