As most of you know I, one of my paired doves just recently died. I have one pair still together in one cage and the now single dove where it was a separate cage. All of the doves are less than a year old. The doves are keep inside so the death was not caused by any other animal or the like. I am not for sure if even the pair was a male / female pair or not.
The question is as follows: When a partnered dove dies does this influence the surviving dove in any way? Should I be on the look out for any separation problems? Since they are as young as they are I do not know if there should be any problems. Any information would be helpful as I would hate to lose the other dove also if there is anyway that I can help it. James,
I think the answer is "yes!" However, this time of the year it only takes a dove a couple of weeks to find a new "true love". In some areas they are better equiped for life than we are. Yours are also very young. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Thanks Bob,
Remember that the dove is by itself as the other two are in a separate cage and those two like to kiss, so I am pretty sure that they are a male/female pair. James Adamson http://www.seam2006.com

I have a similar issue, where I had 4 doves, two originally that mated and two came from there- one day I came home to see somehow the cage door was left open and the mom had flown away- leaving the father and two grown now adults doves- three in total - after a while the father was being attacked so I have him separated now in another cage- and now I'm wondering whether I should get him another dove companion, or a bigger cage so there is not any territorial problems.

A mate is the answer. If you got a bigger cage and put the doves back together, the fighting will start again.

My two pairs were already in two separate cages.
The surviving dove that was with the other dove is doing fine, but I did have to put up a opaque barrier between the two cages as he was literally trying to get thru his cage to the other cage with the other pair. He has calmed down drastically since he cannot see the other pair. Maybe in my case he was just too aggressive. James Adamson http://www.seam2006.com
