I plan on doing an effect where a spectator tells me where to cut a newspaper article and a prediction in an envelope ends up with the exact word I cut it on.

Now, I know how to do the effect but I'm wondering about anything to make it more powerful or fun or funny or interesting.

The article has very much to do with the group I will be performing for.

They are a state agency and there have been announcements of job cuts. I'm going to reduce it to "one cut".

Anyway, that's the reason for the effect.

I already plan on having a spectator come up and pick up the cut piece off the floor so I never touch it. I believe this is a very old effect that I read in a magic book some years ago.

Anything else I should be considering?

Hi Frank, this plays strong, really. I did it recently during a show, and the reaction was great. After the show they remembered this one. I've got a PhD professor asking me how I did it with a 'so-bad' look.

Somehow, somehow,...I dunno why but perhaps psychological reasons...leave the prediction envelope as far as you can back in the audience. The further end of the stage the better. You may want to start by walking all the way to the audience at the back and leave it there.

Also, what I did was got the volunteer to read the article headline before I start the presentation.

Cheers, and good luck!

Hi Frank,

sometimes simple is better. Your effect is direct and clean as it is. I would not change it.
