This is a very nice appearing cane opener by Lu Chen. What is it called and where can I purchase it?

Any other good appearing cane for opener?

Thanks in advance.

Wow, that was really good. And I've never seen a silk "lit on fire" as a way to do an appearing cane either.

Looks like that was a good show.

The effect is called Spectacular Cane production and it is an invention of Juan Mayoral from Spain. He teaches it in one of his lecture notes, Todays Magic 1.
I don´t know if anyone else sells this effect.

Very good performance!!

Check with Stevens Magic at http://www.stevensmagic.com. They use to sell in and may be able to get it for you.

It is very dangerous as the silk is soaked in lighter fluid and you could go up in flames. That is why I did not buy it years ago. Just too dangerous!

Bill Hegbli offers a very valuable tip here, it is just too dangerous to play around with anything that is too combustible, especially soaking a silk with lighter fluid and setting it on fire, just too dangerous.

You not only end up buying many silks but may also injure yourself and the audience with just one freak accident.

Please remember that anything that could happen may just happen one fine day.

I have used the same silk for 20 - 30 preformances. I agree that fire magic can be dangerous and should be done with greatest care and with a fire extinguisher at hands. Juan Mayoral's method of doing this trick takes some care of safety, both for you and the props, as you don't use only lighter fluid on the silk.

I've been using that effect for years. No accidents ever happened and it gets a great audience reaction.

Just posted a few short videos on my site. I use 2 Mechka Tendo Appearing Canes and 1 German Steel Vanishing Cane.
Take a look. Would be happy to discuss methods off the board.

Do they still make the good Appearing Canes? The German Appearing Canes?

Thanks,

Dennis,
I loved the effect with the vanishing cane. I wasn't expecting that. I like your routine in number 4. I think your dove work is your best.

I'm looking for a high quality appearing cane (2 of them more specifically). I would rather have a metal cane, but worry about the oiling required, etc. Can someone recommend a top quality metal appearing cane?

Thanks in advance!

I recently dug out my ole' appearing cane prop.
After seeing Chris Capehart do it LIVE at one of our IBM meetings, I was reminded just how powerful it can be.
Thanx Chris.

Harakhan Appearing Cane may be the way to go. I just got 2 from from Stevens. This cane is very high quality steel with an instant reliable appearance. The appearance is lightning fast. My wife's eyes bugged out when I demo'd it for her. In ready to appear form it is a very small package, unlike many others out there. Requires no oil, just wipe clean. When open, it appears seamless from very close and is rigid as can be.

The cane only comes in a dark metallic brown finish but for stage work can easily be switched for a black disappearing cane without notice. Most pros that do appearing cane will state that there is no substitute for the Harakhan appearing cane. Runs about $135 when Stevens has them. They aren't always available and are becoming increasingly hard to get. I have seen them sell on ebay for $160 and up.

Mahka Tendo has some of the best appearing canes out on the market right now. They are pricey, but they are worth the investment. They come in a variety of colors to fit any need and he also now has multicolored appearing canes. Hope this helps.
