I have never dealt with Tannens before but I am pretty sure I won't be in the future!
Yayachin, if you still need help with the instructions let me know, I live in Japan.

I hear about how Tony Spina put Tannen's in the toilet, but these horror stories don't seem to have ended now that Tony is gone and someone else is in charge.
When I went to Tannen's after the new guy was in, I tried to buy an 18" dye tube and a set of sponge balls. I went twice over a two year period (getting to NYC from Providence RI is not easy for me.) Each time, the counter person tried to sell me a 12" dye tube and told me they were "fresh out" of sponge balls! (Claiming on the second visit that clown had just bought them out for his "magic class.") I also tried to buy a thimble routine. They didn't have the one I wanted in colors but offered me a silver set instead. I bought that because I liked the silver and it worked fairly well until I lost it! I also notice they no long carry ads in Genii or Magic and Magic doesn't list them as carrying the magazine (another lie on their part, on the second trip I bought a Genii and was told they were "fresh out" of Magic. In fact, they aren't carrying it any more.) I'm going to NYC next week. I think I'll skip my yearly frustration of a trip to Tannen's. It's very sad.

Hello:
I bought a Magic Hands' "Die to Ball" tray from Tannens around 1980. They advertised that the die was 4 inches square, so I bought from them, thinking it would match the size of the die in my diebox. I received the "Die to Ball" tray and the die was about 2.5 inches square, so I called them, and was given the explanation that they had done their best in converting from metric to inches, and I had "bought the secret" so no refund would be granted. I finally talked to Spina's partner (can't remember the guy's name...not Irv Tannen...perhaps, Jack something) and he finally agreed that a refund would be given. I have not ordered from them since. The new guy who took over a few years ago promised lots of changes from the Spina era, but I see little that has changed for the good. Ron Reid |
