I am wondering about your thoughts on the art of astonishment volume one by Paul Harris.
The two most popular effects appear to be reset and las vegas leaper. Are the handilings difficult on either of these effects, and is the book itself written in a context with pictures that is easy to understand. Also the lip balm effect can you use modern chapstick or is their an older version of lip balm to use. Finnally for the whole site, if I had a question about constructing some of these gimmicks could I ask questions about it on the board or via PM. -thank you and please reply by tonight or tommorow morning if possible.

It's a grat book but not for beginner, as basics is a must to really take profit from AoA.

Depending on your skills, Reset is not an easy effect, Las Vegas Leaper is fairly easy. I'm not the best person to comment on the last question; best advice is use good judgment and do not expose anything openly that somebody not owning the book would be able to figure out.

The lip balm trick uses one of the small circular tubs of balm, not a stick. And once you have the tub, it needs to be the right size and have a special feature that I can't expose here (just think of it as an impromptu Boston coin box).
I don't know how common this kind of lip balm is, so that may pose a problem. |

Funny, my wife had one of those lip balms and the moment I saw it, I thought--Okito. I bought her a different one and have been in the process of using up the lip balm in the original. Haven't seen any of the AOA series. I guess it's a natural thought.

You are good to go. Most of the stuff is not that hard. Some is very hard, like Paul Harris' "simple switch"
AoA is an awesome set of books. I bought them when they first came out and still refer to them often. James Quote: On 2006-06-23 14:17, Cascade88 wrote:

Don't buy the book just for reset and las vegas leaper..there are soo many great effects in the first volume..it would be wise to pick up the other 2 books..i have a feeling once you buy one paul Harris item you will buy several..my first magic books were the aoa books, now I own ever Harris item out there except for some very rare lecture notes he has..paul's stuff is very powerful for laymen and will fool magicians as well..but if you really want to entertain your laymen, I would say paul's material is the best..one of my favorites of paul's that I do to myself for entertainment is the perfectionist, it is beautiful..if you have any questions once you purchase the book on making gimmicks or effects in general you can pm me.

I haven't been replying in time based on the title of your post.
Therefore I will be keeping my opinions to myself for now unless you are extending the deadline for replies. If you extend the deadline I will be answering with my opinion if you are still asking. Ha ha.
Think not what magic can do for you, but what you can do for magic.

Im sorry to say I hate the book, I bought micheal skinner's ultimate monte and its a lot better, ive been reading and looking through and the routines seem impractical, also no new concepts, I was looking for a new revalaion of a card but that didn't work out.
I have to say I pretty much hate this book. Its just not my style.
