I know this subject has been beaten to death, but this is one of the last effects I plan to add to my act (this time I mean it) and I want it to be good :
I want to use no g.....d bottles and I want the spectator to do the slamming. Anyone suggestions for a clean method ? |

I would think the high majority of Spectators are not really going to be very willing to slam their hand on a cup with a ........ under it.
Also what would be the point of having the spectator do it? Are you showing your "power" or the spectators? |

I totally agree with chichi. Having the spectator slam the bags is a bad idea. If I was a laypeople, I would never trust you enough to do this effect. If you want a proof, just look the routine by MR Spelmann on his DVD set.

Fact is that I already do it and that nobody has ever refused to slam. I'm not satisfied with the method, though.

That's one possible type of presentation I could see where it totally make sense, but still I wouldn't personally do this kind of thing as I agree that putting your spectator in danger instead of yourself really is...well I don't see it happening. My onlt advice, Traveler, as a performer who uses this type of routine is that something can go horribly wrong with this routine. Of course you already know that don't you. You open yourself up to a great deal of liability should something unforseen happen. Just keep that in mind and be prepared for the possibility of this and you should be set. I myself do not allow the participant to do the smashing. I can't afford the lawsuit and possible jail term.

Their wa s aperson who slammed a specs hand on a spike on a mentalism clips TV show in England called Andi Clockwise. It is a very popular story from UK based mind readers. Poor spec.

I agree with the consensus at this point that I would not have the spec take the risk himself. However, there is a way to have the spec use their clairvoyant skills to make the decisions for the mentalist. This way the performer takes all the "risks". The personal reactions of the spec might enhance the suspense as the choices are narrowed. In that way the spec would feel some responsibility for any harm that could come to the performer. I have done this a few times using glasses of water with one glass having several spoonfuls of caustic lye mixed in by the spec. The spec could know which class has the poison or the classes could be shuffled so that no one would know which glass contains the poison. When only one glass remains, the performer can prove it was the dangerous one by dropping strips of metal into the solution to show the violent, caustic reaction.
