I recently bough a new home and I'm looking to hang a few old magician posters (So far I've found interest in a couple of Houdini, Blackstone and Kellar posters). I would love to collect originals, but I just don't have the money at this time. I am interested in reprints suitable for framing. I have looked on (and found some) eBay, but would prerfer dealing with a shop/printer directly. Can anybody recommend any online shops or locations in New York City/Long Island that sell the large poster reprints?

For the best and widest choices of posters, it has to be Norm Neilsen. Here's the link.

If you are looking for good but inexpensive reprints on poster stock, try HERE
and HERE.

Framing these posters could cost much more than the posters themselves! You might want to check out the special lightweight "poster frames" that are usually sold at craft stores. SETH

If you're going to hang them in the house, you might as well get the canvas backed ones from Norm. A nice frame will cost more than the poster, but you have to look at it everyday.

You may want to look into original low end posters like Alexander, Carter, etc. They go for $100 up to $300. At least you'll have something in the end.

Thanks Kevin/Seth... .Actually, I was aware that the framing would be the most expensive part. I was hoping to keep my expenses under $100 per framed poster. I could go for posterboard and the lightweight frames, but that just doesn't look good. I would at least get 2 nice looking frames, and maybe cut my own mattes so that the images look full framed and take up the same space (I'm pretty handy when it comes to crafts like that) I wouldn't need anything fancy like UV/polarized glass since I wouldn't be protecting expensive prints.

The posters I saw on eBay were running around $20 each for the larger sized prints. I like some of the posters on The Magic Warehouse and some of them are as low as $10 (but do they LOOK like they cost $10 is my question.. They seem worth taking a look at this time.)

I say at this time because down the road I would love to get authentic prints, or even autographed prints as I tend to collect them. I currently have about 25 8x10 autographs, mostly TV and movie stars - Recently added Darwin Ortiz, but need a good 6x8 or 8x10 to frame with autographed playing cards.

This site has a lot of really good posters that are reprinted and are all $4.oo. There not as big as the originals but there still a good size. I got some from here and love them.

I have been fortunate enough to pick up a few original Carter 8 sheet posters at some auctions to hang up at home. But when looking for some to hang at my office, I looked towards Norm Nielsen's reprints.

In the process, I found another supplier that will reprint them in various sizes and will do it on either matte, or canvas, in a choice of sizes. I am going to spend the $130 to buy the large Houdini portrait to get an idea of how well the canvas reproductions are, but these would be definitely in the price range you are looking for and you have your choice of paper quality.

Hi Michael
Hope you are doing well. It was nice seeing you again, albeit a while ago now.

Nice link. Thank you very much. I didn't know about this site before. Although all of the posters in my home are originals, I use repros for the rehersal space, warehouse etc. This way, I am not worried about direct sunlight, rain, theft or the everyday wear and tear on them, yet I still get to enjoy and be inspired by the images. So, once again, thank you for this link.

BTW, I also have a couple of 8 sheets, and they are really difficult to frame and to hang. In fact, in my entire house, I only have 1 wall large enough for one. It is a Carter Cheating the Gallows.

Hey Mike,

Good to hear from you. Wish I was able to break away for camp but hope it is the best ever.

I am waiting to move and will hang a Carter 8 Sheet Spirit Cabinet and 8 Sheet Vanishing Elephant. Dr. Tim Moore found me the elusive one you know I have been looking for. There is a the 3 sheet Thurston Iasia that he has seen that I am seriously looking at.

Today I just ordered the Houdini Portrait in the 54 x 36 size in canvas. Should have it by Tuesday. Will let you know how it turns out.
