I've been doing this for a while. It's a fooler, even for many magicians. It's a worker for sure.
I will say that I prefer the "monte" style turnover move rather than the one shown on the video. (They are both described in the directions). Imo, I think it looks less "sleighty" and is more open. |

I always thought the one on the video was monte style. But then again, we are might talking about different video.

Definite worker, versatile too, I have seen it added to a deck to give a different presentation.

This is one of about 10 packet effects I carry on my at all times. This is my goto effect if there is a group of women, as the patter I use is geared towards that. This is one of the effects that gets the "You're the Devil" reaction from spectators that I love =)

I just perfomed this several times at a strolling gig for a large family event. Think of a loud room with live music, food on the tables and kids, teens and adults.
Very hard to speak. One odd thing was that for a few the reaction was "so what's the big deal?" One teen ordwas sure she knew how it was done and did not it. She stated something about memorizing the card order. So I first reminded her that her friend named the queen and that I let HER choose the guards and she had a free choice of which ones she took. each time I got that OH YEAH type of reaction. It almost seemed like the effect as too complex for some that I thought should be, like teens and adults. Oh sure, maybe get a big chuckle out of the queen reveal but some gave me that "that's nice" but the vibe was either I figured it out or I am not impressed. But listening or asking I discoverd they were missing the point. So I was sure to start recapping. My next comment was that I find the reveal of the jokers it or miss. Are we to assume THEY assume the other cards in their hand are queens? But why would they? We have told them they are picking the guards so why should this be a climax. The reaction I get is the reveal of the queen. Yes turning over the jokers does cap off any wrong thoughts but I still feel it is almost an anti climax Unlike say Bwave or say Duplicity. In those the fact you are showing blanks adds to the mystery/ I post this input not to say my reactions are the fault of the trick. Maybe I need to change the timing/ It would be interesting to read if anyone else has anything like tht happen to them. Final thought. I find that video link posted funny. Maven is the one who named the trick, so watch the video again to see why I find it humorous. |

I find that this trick gets awesome reactions everytime. Then when the kicker comes at the end- it gets even better reactions. I just love this trick. One of the few packet tricks I actually carry and use.

Powermagic,
Why are you telling them to "pick the guards"? I don’t remember seeing that in the booklet. I simply tell them that they are eliminating three of the queens and leaving the one they believe to be the queen that they named at the start. That is how it is described in the booklet I received with Entourage. At least the main description. Perhaps there are alternate effects that I don’t remember right now. Jim |

I just ask the spectator first - to name the most beautiful cards in the deck. Majority say Queens, some say Aces, but then I just say- "No- the most pretty"- then they always say the Queens. T then tell them that these four Queens are being guarded by the tough Jokers. I then ask them to think of their favorite Queen. After they got it- I then say "OK, which one are you thinking of?". Usually I perform this around a group, so I then tell the group that "with everybody's help here, we are going to try and find (name of spec) Queen." I then have the three cards eliminated. Then Bam- the though of queen is revealed. Then I tell them that the Queen must have been so important to you because- she was surrounded by an ENTOURAGE of Jokers!!

Powermagic,
Perhaps the ambient and environment didn't support your presentation. Entourage relies on patter, the wordings of your story is essential. I believe this kind of trick doesn't give you best effect when you do it in a crowded room, with loud music at the background and people walking by all the time. I believe their attention weren't not fully at your performance. If you can find the demo of Gordon Bean himself, you will see that the ambient is pretty quiet so their attention was undivided to something else. He even did it twice to the same (something that most of magicians won't recommend you to do) but he nailed both times. Crowded places need something with less words I guess, such as ACR, as it is more visual. So I would suggest you not to put down this too soon. Explore its great and triumph effects in different surroundings.

This is simply an awesome trick that is easy to do which allows you to really focus on your patter and pull the audience in. RNK

Just purchased. I performed today few times. It worked great! No one suspected any of the moves.
What do you think about performing this twice while revealing the jokers only after the 2nd time? I tried this saying that that the first queen was also a 'fake one', and after the 2nd time saying this is the REAL one, and this is why she has 5 guards... This eliminates the question of people wondering 'what if I would have chosen another queen'... What do you say when people turn over the jokers ahead of time? What do you say when people ask to examine the cards at the end? Rami |

Ramik,
Though it might seem tough - especially if you are trying to perform for a rowdy group in a bar - but you need to manage your audience to the best of your abilities. Tell the spec holding the cards to hold out both hands to make a kind of "table" on which you place the eliminated cards - they can't turn them over if both hands are beneath the cards. And as for examining the cards, simply don’t offer them for examination! It is not a requirement to allow spectators to examine every prop you use, though some magicians seem to think so. Do you offer props for examination when they are not gimmicked? (Most don’t - only when they are working with gaffs). Many routines you perform will involve gimmicked props. You need to learn how to manage people - or never use gimmicks! Jim |

To reveal the card at the end, I use the third card to turn over the "middle" card.
you can see me do the move twice at 30sec in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaeF5NBlTRY it works well for entourage and it's not a hard move. |

I just purchased Entourage.
In a single practice session the cards lost their "slickness". The monte move went from being effortless to almost impossible (impossible to do well anyway). Do special made gaffs have the same finish as regular Bikes? Has any one else noticed this or did I get a bad batch? I wouldn't return the cards over this. The monte move is optional. Any recomendations on how to restore the original finish? |

I did not have any such problem. Of course after many practices and performances the cards will get "old" just like any cards.
Gotta keep your hands clean and dry and clean the cards once in a while. Jim |

This was just my first session with the cards. Initially the monte move worked as I would expect and then after a while suddenly they acted like very cheap or old playing cards that you can't fan.
