This guy has one of the best bird acts around!!! He's doing his own thing and lay people loved it. What more can you ask for. That's two thumbs up in my book.

Hmm... Somehow, I just dislike this act. I don't know what it is that I dislike in particular, but I know I dislike it.

Now that I have thought about it a bit more I found that a) I didn't like the way he uses his birds and b) I didn't like his shifty movements. He was constantly swaying or something. Anyways..

Do remember, he's performing in a "gong-show" fashion... He has to constantly be moving to keep the interest of the judges and audience... As for originality, I thought it was pretty cool! I can't wait to see his next performance on "America's Got Talent"...

I think if we forget about the standard looking dove magician, meaning tux and suave movements, the guy wasn't that bad. On America's got talent, you've got to surprise the judges and show what you've got very quickly. He didn't come out and say "oh look, the mic isn't working". Who knew he was a magician until he produced the dove. That's pretty cool. Then the rest of his act was different as well. Turning the speaker into a tambor and producing the dove isn't seen everyday and that's what the program is about.

I know it is not the standard Channing Pollock/Lance Burton dove-and-tux thing, but Elliot Zimet is thinking outside the box. As magicians, we sometimes feel uncomfortable watching a style of magic to which we are unaccustomed. We all have to remember that magic is not a static art. Magic must constantly change and grow to meet the needs of the surrounding culture. Think back to the beginning of Jeff McBride's career. Many magicians complained he did too much mime and was not a "real magician". Well, he is lecturing at FISM this year. Enough said.
Elliot Zimet's dove productions are fast and intense, but I did not see him mistreating the birds. He has clearly spent time on his act and on training the fly-back dove. Having the patience to keep a loud (but lovely) macaw in your home gets bonus points in my book. I think as Zimet grows with his art he will develop a style that will fit him beautifully. The lay people love him and they are the people who write his paycheck.
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

I have to agree with Morning Star and Dave. As much as people these days talk of "being Original". This guy did a GREAT job! WHO CARES if you didn't like the act! That is the one thing that gets under my skin is when another Magi talks down about his fellow Magi's work! He is not try to impress another magician! Why would he? He is doing a great job with the laymen, and that's all he needs to do. They are paying him, and he gives them what they want.
If they want the upbeat, street-type attitude, then, hey, that is what he gives them. That is his style, and he's doing a great job with it. The guy WORKS! And today's younger crowd (and some older) is into what he's doing, so give him the credit for it instead of saying you didn't like it. That is not the issue. The main thing is that he is performing the way that makes himself feel comfortable and people are flocking to his style. So let it be. Why do you think that sometimes Magicians don't go to competition? For this very reason - Because they are being judged by other magicians that may not like that particular style. I give a lot of credit to this guy because he is performing and loving it, and in turn the people loved him for it. He got a Standing ovation for crying out loud, so he must have done something right? He came, He saw, He conquered. |

He's been working on this act for a long time. I remember him doing it at Tannens camp years ago, and everyone thought it was goofy. Elliot has stuck with the same routine and has polished it. more than can be said for most of us. It's awesome to see him on TV, and I wish him the best of luck.

I personally thought his quick act, character, and dove productions were smooth, well executed and I enjoyed it tremendously.
Now, how does he top that act the next time he appears because that act was well rehearsed!

People,
Like it or not, his act appealed to the audience. He used hip hop music and street clothes. The act was good. Funny thing that you might take into consideration is America's Top Talent had auditions at the Magic Castle, so what happened to the magicians from the Magic Castle? G0THIKE |

I liked it as well. Kudos to him for the energy and attitude. Obviously the studio audience enjoyed it, and isn't that what it is all about? Doesn't matter what we think - in the end it's Joe Public's opinion that counts.

I, for one, LOVED the act!!
That was so darn refreshing, inventive, and COOL! And, did you notice? About a 1/4 of the way through the act the camera cuts to one of the judges, the girl, I think her name is Brandy or something... She is smiling WIDELY, and her hands are poised to applaud... This guy has the judges ANTICIPATING an applause point, because they've been PRIMED to KNOW that it is coming.... That, my dear fellow performers, is what SHOWMANSHIP is all about! Job well freaking DONE! About time we see some AWESOME talent on TV! Prof. Piper

I too remember him from when I worked Tannen's Camp some years ago. He even bought my Exotic Parrot Production Holder for his Macaw. (Plug) I give him props on having the courage to do an act in front of those judges.
The one thing I would suggest though is to be careful of using the invisible harness too much. Invisibles were made to enhance a bird act not become it. His creativity and execution gets two thumbs up and I love that the audience didn't know it was a bird act when he first got on stage. Great job!!! Puck |

I like the act as well but I agree with puck on the invisible dove harness, someone I know all he uses in his act is invisible dove harnesses and after a few productions the same way some people start to figure out where the come from. I sent the clip to my friend and he is not a magician but said the first bird got him but the second one his coat pulled up in the front and he got it, but as the clip went on he knew where the were coming from, but I told him he was wrong. I for one do not use the dove harness I tried them and it seemed to me that my birds were not to comfortable so I retired that method. So now all I use it no body loads and dove holders.

I am not a dove magician. I tried it once and I've seen a lot of dove acts but this one didn't seem bad. It was nothing to write home about though. I think it would fly right over a lay crowds head and that's who he was performing for. I say more power to him for knowing his crowd. After all, he wasn't performing for The Magic Café.
