Alright, so call me the first to "cast the first stone"!
I just finished watching Criss Angel perform none other than the Orange, Lemon, Egg, and Parakeet (or Canary to the technical- historians of theMagicCafe'). For someone who claims he doesn't perform what other magicians are performing, thinks outside of the box, and creats unique effects... Why was Criss performing the identical OLEP routine by Cyril Takayama? See for yourself: http://media.putfile.com/Cyril-Performs-in-Chinatown The video posted above is Cyril performing OLEP without the use of a table or cage... In a few days (after people pirated and upload tonight's episode of Mindfreak, I'll post a link of Criss performing the same effect, so you can judge for yourself.) I'm not trying to bash what Criss has accomplished, nor am I saying he is ruining our art... My only point is this- If you are going to make a huge deal out of not liking the way magic is headed due to the copycat performers and un-unique performances, why would you perform the same exact effect on your television special? Maybe there is an agreement from Cyril that allows Criss to perform Cyril's approach to OLEP? Maybe Criss isn't the so called "one-of-a-kind, creatively-unique" magician he claims to be? The only thing that held my interest was the fact Criss was able to make that young man's dream come true... to perform in a Las Vegas performance... That was a pretty cool deal for that kid! -Just some food for thought! Bryan Gilles |

Man I've been looking in every book I can to learn that trick not steal it or anything just learn it does anyone know were to look. I also agree on this topic but then again you have to think about how much pressure he is under to do all these tricks and it is hard to do some new and exciting tricks when a bunch have already been done.

I think you're right, or at least a version of it is. The one Cyril performs produces the budgie bare-handed handed at the end which I don't think that Doug Malloy's does. http://www.malloymodernmagic.com/orange_lemon_egg.htm I'm not too familiar with the prop but looks like a great effect, and carries well to the audience. It will happen that performers are doing the same and similar illusions now and then. There are just so many so there are bound to be repeated now and then. The only thing I don´t like is that CA keeps saying in his shows, along with his cast, that this are unique never before attempted illusions.

I wonder if CA maybe also consulted with KJ about doing the sawing in half...? Or Andre' Kole for walking on water...? Even though CA "is the first to do anything like this". I got no problem with magic being on TV as long as its a positive representation of it, and I got nothing aganist CA personally, but it just bothers me where appropriate credit isn't given where it may be due especially in regards to making such bold statements as he and his crew do on the TV specials. Cyril could still kick blaine and angel's butt, Cyril's the man and a way cool dude to meet in person. I hope his specials make it to the US so he can show us how its done...

I'm actually selling my OLEP because everyone is performing it now... That's besides the point! Like Sperris said, "appropriate credit isn't given where it may be due especially in regards to making such bold statements as he and his crew do on the TV specials". Criss claims he is doing the effects nobody else is doing and makes such concrete arguments in his interviews about how magicians aren't doing much for magic... That we just copy everyone elses routines... Why is he performing everyone elses stuff and making the laymen believe he is original. I think he still needs to mature in that sense. He may be a "hot item" for a cable station, but he is snading on the shoulders of many greats before him and not giving credt to those who have helped him get there...

You know as well as I that Kevin can do it live without the use of a double and edits. He is just taking certain things without getting permission. He has asked Kevin but did not get permission, and that just sucks. To put together 18 episodes in 3 months is a very big challenge, but with all the talent he has on his team you think he would not be doing it the way he is.

He DID ask and got a NO and still went ahead and did it? Wouldn´t that get him in a hot spot quickly?

I would check the source before I made statements like that. It was my understanding that things were sorted out between Criss and Kevin through Johnny Thompson.

This is a great illusion, I might get it in the future, even though cyril and criss have similar performances , I personally like criss's "vanishes" better.

The vanishes were very nice at first look. But after a thorough review, not so much

The title is wrong....maybe you should say Cyril Takayama the next Criss Angel. I don't know why people hate him but regardless of the hate Chris Angel is one of the greatest magicians in the history of magic.....and Chris Angel > Cyril Takayma by ALOT in my opinion. And I'm not talking about the video editing if any...or the stooges.....give him the credit that he deserves people....Im not a huge fan of him but credit should be given were due.

You've resurrected a a 7 year old thread. Cyril started doing TV specials in Tokyo almost 2 years before Mindfreak started; hence the wording of the title.
