I did a search, but could not find an answer! How long can you stop your pulse until
it's getting dangerous? kiki |

The whole trick is to make it look dangerous...
ask Lior Manor about it. He did a nice pulse stop years ago on Israeli TV. I am not sure but I think he also consulted for "der Gedankenleser" special on German TV about a year ago. Lior can you give more details? Nir. Visit me at http://www.bidthegrid.com |

Ok... I'm assuming you're not asking about actually stopping your heart but your pulse.
In which case, the answer is: A fairly long time, much longer than you'll need for your performance. If you're actually asking how to stop your heart, then... well... *cough* :D |

Actually I hear stopping ones pulse can be dangerous as well. Maybe an urban legend.

I think you are correct Scott. Cutting off the bloodflow to any limb is dangerous if done long enough. I learned this in basic first aide class.
I posted this on another thread but I've had my pulse (wrist) stopped for much longer then I anticipated. This happened when nurse (or so she said) held mine much too long while I assume she was watching her watch. My hand turned a shade of purplish blue and I had carpal tunnel for about a week after. I am unsure of the reactions, I walked off aftewards in a state of anguish.

Ok I will give you a strait true answer.
I have a woman place her hand over my heart. We count down from ten together my heart rate slows as we do. By ten it futters and pauses for about three seconds. My vision grows dark and I almost imeadialty start sweating and almost pass out. I say that three seconds is good. You might have the abilty to go longer if you hyperventilate but I choose not to. I'm not sure what he stops. I know there's a method out there for slowing down your heart beat, but I don't think stopping your heart is possible(without certain consequences). I might be wrong though.

I hesitate doing the pulsestop (no heartstop), because when I do it I have a bad feeling interrupting my bloodflow to the brain. so after 5 seconds I stop always! but just want to know how long you guys do it without fear of getting dizzy!

I slowed down my heart (beat was so weak people could not get it - so it seemed to stop)
I used the jugular kind of trick to "stop" the beating on my throat arteries (I learned this one from an old friend) And of course the pulse. Kiki, personally speaking I kept the flow stopped more than one minute without consequences. And I saw a footage by David Berglas in which he routinely holds the flow of BOTH of his pulses stopped for more than one minute. So, I think in part, it also vary from person to person. Oh, by the way, for the most curious here... what I basically did as whole act when I did this kind of 3 Points Stopping stunt, I was putting myself in a sort of deep trance. I was inspired by one of the effect you find in McGill Psychic Magick (the effect was BLACK DEATH) but I added the throat thing...

Kiki,
you can do the stop trick routine only with the jugular method, so no gimmick is required and you will have no problem. The jugular stop can be find in "Sleight of mind" and in "Syzygy". I prefer the version in "Sleight of mind". A three point pulse stop routine can be find in Kenton Knepper's "Sorcere series 3". |
