OK, now that you know what kind of cane to buy, here is the REAL SECRET.
Learn to dance. Learn to light it properly (bright not dark). Keep it simple and short.

Also, really study exactly what it is you are trying to say and show to the audience. Just moving this stick around doesn't do anything for your audience. Remember, it is not about how cool the effect looks to you and you are not out there to simply impress yourself. Just becuase you know 120 moves with a dancing cane does not mean your audience wants to see all 150 moves.
The moves are your tools to be used in your tool box of magic. You go to these tools and take the tools out that will best help you build the routine that will be entertaining for the audience and that also fits your own very unique character you are presenting on stage. Really take the time to study just what it is you are trying to say to the audience. Work with the music. The music should become a strong part of the routine and the music and the movement of the cane should go hand in hand. Is the music fast paced and jazzy? Is is slow and classy? Each style of music also changes the way in which the cane should move and your own reactions to it. Even your character can really change the way in which you perform the dancing cane. Who are you on stage? What would this character do with a cane and how would he or she move and interact with it? These are questions you should be asking yourself. Just my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps. Kyle

I know I am no professional, but I would suggest also, to spend some time with a normal cane. Learn some basic flourishs with a normal walking cane.
I've been training these cards since they were small.

I tell you all that I would pay good money to see Pete do that. What say the rest of you? Let's all gang up on the executives of the IBM,SAM, or what have you, and petetion them to HIRE Pete and have him do the Floating and Dancing Walker at their next convention.

I would pay top dollar to see Pete coming out on stage and doing the classic of all classics in magic "The dancing walker". Then maybe he can follow that up with "the floating dentures of mystery" ooo awwwww hehehe

Zombie dentures?
Use a shawl for the cloth... Or pull off a shoulder length wig to use as one. Heh! |

He wouldn't have a shawl, maybe, a hand towel that he uses as a running gag to wipe the dribble (No disrespect intended). We are writing your routine for you Pete.

A whole routine of geriatric magic would be awesome. He could also do 20th century shorts and pull out some Depends instead, or maybe instead of "Peanut Butter & Jelly" he could do Geritol and Maalox.

You know this is all funny and everything, but it would be a good act to see at a convention, because we are all on our way down that path. It is nice to know we can still laugh at ourselvs.

I could see you walking on the stage very slowly and you stop mid stage, pull out a small flask and take a sip. Your then say, "WHAOOO! I feel good!" Which cues the music by James Brown. You proceed to dance (to which extent your hip will allow) and then the walker slow start to join in. And every time you hit a high note...your "dentures" or Glasses fly off and back on. HAHAHA
Good money right there. Maybe I will do it as a gag...;-) You know us young kids are always lookin' for a good laugh. No disrespect. But I think its an amazing idea.
