Three months ago I went, to visit the constructor builder "Tony Klauf".
He had spectacular plans of illusions, not the Osborne ones... they were each plan around 1,50 metres by 1 metre. They were made of acid paper. They were spectacular.

I would like to know where can I get such big and well made plans.

Thanks a lot

Were the plans really detailed as to the exact size or were they really brief like Osborne's? I like what I have had from Osborne, they just aren't real detailed.

Most magic dealers sell, individually, plans for a number of Illusions. They are large and quite detailed. These have been around for years and tend to be some of the classic effects vs something brand new.

I would try, first, Magic Inc. They used to have a catalog that was nothing but such illusion plans. They sold, typically, for just a few dollars a piece. I have such plans for sword suspension, head twister and a few others. I think an inquiry with Hank Lee or Tannen would turn them up too. When he had the Seattle shop Micky Hades had tons of these. I do not know if his son Brian has any now or not.

Try Owens' illusion plans. They are really the only "true" plans out there. And they give you EVERYTHING you need to build, including a supply list. They might be listed on Owens' website. Rather pricey compared to the others out there, but in my mind there is nothing that even compares to them if you are trying to build a "stock" illusion, as the Osborne and Woodbury stuff are more concepts and ideas with very little detail. They’re great if you are trying to create an effect similar to them.

I'm not much of a computer guy, but here is a link to the page. If you would like to know the prices, please pm or email me, as Owen does not like to give out price quotes.

Let me know if I can help you further.

I have both books and they do have Thayer plans in them. These are not acid (blueprint paper) plans but reduced size to fit in his book. If I recall, each book is over $100, but a lot cheaper than the $25 for each blueprinted plans.

Having these books and Osborne Books, I would recommend Osborne Books because the illusions do not look like old illusions, and they are $40 each. You could get all of Osborne's books for the price of the two Owen's books. The Owens books have many pages on the history of Owen. Both sets are nice for a magic collection, a must have for an illusion builder, and a wish to have for the hobbist who wants to spend $250.

Thanks a lot for your help.
He had exacly around 7 plans and he told me that they costed around $600. Smile
I think that they are not in Owen´s books and they are not the Thayers ones.
Please tell me, what are the size of the Thayer plans and the Owen´s plans?

Many Thanks

You do not mention what the plans were of???
Fechner in his two book set published some years ago (Stevens still has some) contained approx. 12 illusion plans of the size you are talking about. Bar Stool Levitation and others. ($600.00 USD for the two vol.)

Perhaps the builder you are referring to had enlarged copies of the plans??

More detail as to which illusions he was building might narrow down who produced the plans.

A note regarding the old Thayer plans that are seen in so many books.....the female assistants 60 years ago were often shorter/smaller than many of today's show business type of females. Many of the illusions were designed for perhaps a 5 foot tall assistant. Your assistant might be 5' 8" and not fit the illusions. It is best to build a quick cheap mock up for size before investing expensive time and materials in an illusion.

It is Stevens Magic Emporium. Ask for Joe or Mike and tell 'em Blair sent you.

Check the web, they are there. MDA site or All Magic Guide should help.

Tony Klauf is one of the best builders and collectors of the Europe, I visited him sometimes to... He have many rare books and props, some created by himself, he is a perfectionist... his prices are in the level of his work... Smile
