Right on! The Zippercard is mine. I've been waiting a long time to hear if it's getting made. Where did you see the teaser? Can you post a link?
Cheers!

Awesome!!!! Zippercard looks great! The way I designed it, the zipper went straight up and down on the face of a joker, but I really like the angled way they printed it. Killer.

Thirty dollars?! I don't think I'd pay ten dollars.

I have the black Deck and Ghost Deck gaffs and they work superbly for certain tricks. So to have them in regular Rider Back bikes would be fantastic. If you were to get such card gaffs made individually by somewhere say like Cards by martin, it would cost you a fortune. So I can't understand the above quote... |

Magicbern,
I agree with what you say. How much is a packet trick? How much would it cost if it came with an instructional video? How much would a stack of packet tricks with a stack of instructional videos cost? If you don't pay the money, how else could you do any of the effects? I probably wouldn't pay that amount for a single gimmicked deck, unless the effect was incredible. But that isn't what this is. BTW I have seen this deck and it's incredible. The screen images don't do it justice. The aged card looks awesome. I'm not a gimmick kind of guy, but using the sleights I know, there are effects possible that couldn't be done any other way. People who know me, know my decks are normal. And yet no one has questioned my ability to smear and shift their faces at will.

When a one trick packet pony costs $20.00, $30.00 for the entire Ellusionist red gaff deck is a fantastic deal.
As always, if you're not interested, don't buy it. Considering the amount of design work put into it up front, the amount of money invested to bring it to market, and the number of seperate effects and tricks you can do with it, this deck represents a great value in card magic. |

I would prefer to have one great effect rather than 30 good effects. And I unquestionably prefer one great trick over 100 medicore tricks.
These cards are just so obviously fake. If I want to perform with gaffes -- my "purist" tendencies notwithstanding -- then I'll take the your standard double-backers (ACR), double-facers (Anniv. Waltz), the 3 1/2 of Clubs, Tree of Hearts, and MacDonald Aces. If I want to do effects using specially printed cards, then I'll do Color Monte, Twisted Sister, NFW, Ultimate 3 Card Monte, and so on. And yes, paying 11 dollars for one absolutely proven killer effect is far more cost efficient than paying 30 for something relatively mediocre (plus tax, plus E's S/H charges, plus the instructional DVD if you so choose). You can bet your ass if they came up with anything really good it would be marketed separately (which is the case with Tricycle). This stuff, in my opinion, is a colossal waste of money; a mere novelty. The gaffed decks, the "vipers," "Tigers," and "Ghosts". Blah. Quote:

Yeah, a great cash cow for E. What effects can you do with only these cards? Do you think they will stand the test of time?

That's my point exactly! Of course if you just buy the gaff deck with no inkling of what you want to do with specific cards, then it doesn't seem to have innate value. But if purchased with specific aims and mixed in with appropriate sleights, then it has superb value for the price. I remeber buying just regular bike gaff decks (with double facers, backers etc) for around $15-$17 a while back!

However, you will always get opinions like Cain's - who can't see beyond his prejudices against ellusionist and their products. If this deck was marketed by another 'name' would it garner such negativity?
Well, to each his own - but again, why would anyone want to do effects with simply the cards in this gaff deck? They are utility cards to be used judicially and with specific effects in mind! |

I have to agree. There is no need for prejudices. I just think though that we should check the value of something vs. the price we pay for it. For a deck of 52 cards..I still think $30 is a bit much...$15.00 maybe..$10 might be a bit too cheap. Hard telling what Ellusionist had to pay to put these together.

I think that the time spent to design 52 different cards with such a quality is worth the price. Think to how many people have worked to produce this deck and for how long they worked on it before realising it.

Cain,
Feel free to limit yourself any way you wish. I'm sure when the so-called "standard" gaff cards came out there were "purists" like yourself who said the same things. If you need someone else to create and test effects, this may not be the item for you. I enjoy pure sleights more than anything. I do Scotch and Soda with regular coins. Some of my favorite effects are modifications of routines used by David Roth and Darwin Ortiz. Ellusionist is not my favorite distributer of magic. They focus on high impact, fast paced, in your face effects. I'm more in line with Vernon's presentational style. Some of the included cards are not for me, so I won't use them. However, I would never use the Tree of Hearts, that you mention. How can you even mention that card one sentence after saying how "fake" the gaff deck is? You seem worked up over a product that you don't own. Do you have problems with regards to this company? If someone were to buy them and feel they received something less than they expected, I could understand that type of response. But these cards are exactly as they describe them, and look even better in person. The overall quality and artwork is excellent. I have only worked up routines with 2 of the cards so far, but am very happy with what I've come up with, as well as the responses I've received from the one I've performed. If you think a good gaffed effect is worth $11.00, and can't come up with 3 strong effects out of 56 cards, by all means don't buy it. But as a serious performer, and one who has worked with the product, your criticism seem unfounded. I started doing magic 34 years ago. I definitely feel there are effects that you can do with these cards that you couldn't do otherwise. And yes I believe the potential effects with this deck, will withstand the test of time.
