There is an interesting and simple peek coming out, with a medium size portfolio.
Unless Jimmy Fingers decides to keep it for himself and not let it go... it's good for Design Duplication but, also, with the proper instructions to your participant(s), for words and numbers. The peek is easy and quick, it's a little bit angle sensitive but that can be covered in many ways, including using other folios in a bunch and do some multiple routines, like Larry Becker's Sneak Thief.
Then you'll rise right before my eyes, on wings that fill the sky, like a phoenix rising!

Wow, I'm really interested in releasing Peekfolio, but I have to be aware of the number of effects that I'm promoting, and the quality and value of the information.
Right now, I'm having a very consistent spring of creativity, and I don't want to overdo it if people are lukewarm about the ideas. One of the nice things about releasing a .pdf here and there is that the material should be incredible every time. I guess that there is more pressure for the material to be 'worth the price of the whole book' because it's the only effect in there. I have no link at this time, but I will describe it. You provide a black, poly-plastic, pocket folder, found in office supply stores and Wal-marts for about a dollar. 9" x 11.5", when closed. You can use it as is, but I prefer to trim the pocket area down on the right side, so that the person drawing the picture has plenty of room to draw without having to remove the paper in any way. Actually, I completely cut off the pocket on the left side. I also make a back board to simplify writing on the paper. I used matte board or crescent board from art stores. It's thicker than poster board, and more durable. The whole assembly is extremely innocent and examinable. You know me. Organic, Ornothing. Kennedy received a copy of it, because I knew that he likes design duplications, and he really seemed to take to it. Paolo Cavalli has been very enthusiastic about this one, as well. Greg, of course, filled me in on other possible pre-exixting concepts with similar methods, and we all agreed that the pocket versions of this vs. a stage version warranted the justified release of this. When I say 'we all agreed', I'm speaking of the people mentioned above and the inventor of another similar effect using the same technique, but with different objects and size. Purchase another of these folios from the store, and you have a second folder to allow for an audience design duplication where you never draw a picture. If I put my own design duplication routine into this package with the Peekfolio information, I will probably have to charge more. Not that it's that much more work, but I will have to research other methods and make sure that mine is not stepping on anyone else's obvious pre-existing ones. I'm still waiting on Kennedy's response to my duplication effect that goes with this. As for angles, I just don't see it. When done as the instructions describe, and discretion, of course, the angles are a complete non-issue. I did it for couple of really sharp teenage magicians yesterday, and they thought that I was using a digital camera or something. THAT is when I really started thinking about pursuing this a little bit more seriously. If I see that there is a demand for this, or if I see more of a positive review response to Standing Between Objects & SLAMDOWN, then I would be a little bit more enthusiastic about bringing something so simple to the market. If I get the feeling that consumers in the market feel that my work lacks value due to the simplicity and boldness of the methods, I may have to back off a bit. I never want to provide something that others deem useless or uninspiring. Jimmy Fingers |

Jimmy, this sounds fantastic. Of course, I like bold and simple. Standing Between Objects is a great concept and something I've been playing around with for months. One vote to please release your new idea!

Jimmy,
Are you saying that pocket versions with similar methods already exists? If so, I agree that there is justification for releasing a stage size version if nothing like it is already out there. I'm assuming it is a stage version you have worked out given that 9' X 11.5" sounds a bit big for the pocket ! In any case, I'm interested to learn more about this and wish you the best.
Good Thoughts, Bill |

I have purchased both of Jimmy's other downloads, SBO and Slamdown, and find them to be very useful.
Slamdown is also more of a utility technique than just a routine. The routine is great but the handling can be adapted to so many other ides. Come on Mr. Jimmy!!!!! Best, James

Hi everyone,
Peekfolio is ready. Please see my website to get it. http://www.jimmyfingers.com I provide video on this one, to get a feel for the technique. It includes two tandem techniques in the final release, just in case the reviewers want to re-download the pdf file to see the changes and video. I am holding off on releasing my design duplication, due to possible infringement on other methods. One thing at a time. Please let me know what you think of the Peekfolio. Thanks, Jimmy |

I have used PEEKFOLIO with a psychic. He was the one who GOT the design!
The reaction of my participants was priceless!

So now: stop selling it, please?

I just got this and read it over very quickly. I like the information that is in here and am excited to get a pocket folder and use it. I've got a couple of shows coming up very soon and would like to incorporate this for certain. This is my second purchase from Jimmy and am not disappointed.

So...I went out to Staples (we don't have a Office Depot close by) and got an equivalent. Made it up and tried it out. Now I really love this. It is easy to work it so the peek is completely undetectable. Motivation for the very natural moves is absolutely no problem. And...for me, here is a real bonus. I am 58 and quite myopic. But, that doesn't matter as this is such a BIG PEEK, that I can almost see it with my eyes closed!

Yes... you could see it even if blindfolded (eh! eh!)

Can this principle be easily adapted to a variety of writing surfaces? In other words, does it have to be a wallet or larger? Can it be applied to a small notebook, for instance, the Mead kind, that has index cards with perforations so the cards can be pulled out -- or any ream of note paper?
thank you, fib |

Let me see if I can answer this categorically.

On 2006-08-01 00:00, fib wrote: Well, yes, anything that can fit into a pocket portfolio that is about the size of a piece of 8.5 x 11 paper. It could be a slate, a piece of acetate, a sheet of mylar, etc. The contrast of a black marker or crayon written image on a white sheet offers you the best odds of the quickest peek and recognition, obviously. Quote:
In other words, does it have to be a wallet or larger? Yes, I believe so. In the spirit of this presentation, anyway. For optimal handling with this technique, the portfolio, as described, should be made of opaque, black, durable poly-plastic. The instructions actually show the exact label of the one available at Office Depot. That being said, I was made aware of another similar method after I published this. And, yes, it used items smaller than a wallet. I've been asked by the inventor of that one to not name or associate mine with his in any way, so I will not disclose the similar, pre-existing effect, or its name. Quote:
Can it be applied to a small notebook, for instance, the Mead kind, that has index cards with perforations so the cards can be pulled out -- or any ream of note paper? I've played with it a bit using the spiral notebooks, but the full sized 2 Pocket Folder described here handles better, due to the pebbling of the plastic, and the silent, springy nature of the materials. I haven't tried it with the pre-corrugated notecard spiral. For the simplicity of the effect, I believe that inside of the pocket you would do best to use a piece of paper and a backing of crescent board or custom framing board, to give a good, solid writing surface. With these slipped into the pocket of the folio, you'll have a great, large writing area with easy access for the person drawing the image or writing the word. The technique could possibly be used with a wallet or a day-planner, but I believe that it wouldn't handle as well or make as much sense. This totally takes advantage of being a stage effect. It can still be used relatively close to the audience, but the nature of using such large drawings and folders lends itself, obviously, to larger groups. I hope that this helps. jF |
