Just wondered if anybody does a hat routine on the street similar to the Don Alan routine he use to do? I've been toyiong with the idea for a while and thought it would be pretty fun. Also any interesting Ideas for loads??? Thanks in advance for any responses.

I've done it and it works great. load something big and funny. If you can connect it to a running gag throughout your routine it will be even funnier when you make the revelation.

Thanks for all the responses. I like a lot of Danny Korems stuff so I will definitely check out "Without Limit's" thanks bill for the tip. Also I think the idea of using the load in conjunction with a running gag is great. I'm gonna have to put a little thought into this. Thanks for the idea Danny.Frank, I have not seen the gertners "Triple Die lemma" Is this on DVD that can be purchased? If so I'd love to check into it.Mike, I'll check into the transpo tumbler also thanks for the info. As for blowing the trick when you tried to show it to the local magic club, I wouldn't worry too much about that.It happens to the best of us at one time or another. Thanks All for your helpful advice.

Yes it is available on his DVD
http://www.theambitiouscard.com/details.......VDPG1STE I highly recommend the routine. I liked it enough to have a wand made to match the color of the dice I was using. I love doing the cups and balls but this is a nice change of pace.

I know is thread is old but since I stumbled across it I figured I might as well add my thoughts.
I was working out on the Pier today and I was trying to draw a few more people before I went into the cups and balls and so I figured I would throw in a little hat thing. I don't know what the Don Alan routine is, but I am pretty sure it ends with a giant nut being produced from under a hat. The routine that I did is a combination of Scotty York's presentation for a copper silver transpo, an old bar bet I saw Harry Anderson do on an episode of cheers a long time ago and Gazzo's hat load. Start by removing my hat and placing a ball onto the table. I tell the people that I am going to teach them a bar bet, and that it's not a trick. I say that I like them to leave with something tangible, not just wonder and awe, but something that they can actually use to get something, like drinks, money, girls, whatever there so inclined to go after. I say that I am going to get the ball from under my hat to my pouch three times and at no point are you going to say, "Hey, I saw that." As I am saying this I am also lifting the hat and moving the ball from under the hat to my pouch, I do this two times as I am explaining what I will do. I then say "But you have to be careful because I cheat, I have already done it twice and nobody has said a darn thing." That was the Scotty York part, now for the Harry Anderson Cheer's thing. "To make it harder for me this last time I will get the ball from under my hat to my pouch, and I won't even touch the hat" make some type of magic move and say the ball is gone. Have a audience member lift the hat to show that it is gone. As soon as he lifts the hat I take the ball and put it into my pouch. I take the hat and load three balls into it and place it on the table. "I will now do the whole thing in reverse. I will not get the ball from under the hat to my pouch but from my pouch to under the hat, and I will do it three times and nobody will see it. But like before I cheat. I do all three and once." Lift the hat and show all three balls and then load the big load. Sometimes I do a big tennis ball and sometimes just a normal tennis ball, I have gotten good reactions from both, but I haven't done this trick that much, maybe 15 times. I am sure tons of people have come up with this before but I like it and it's pretty easy and since I preface it with saying that it's not a trick it's a bar bet it takes a lot of the heat off, not to mention that for about 4-5 minutes I don't do anything magical they are not expecting three balls to appear under the hat and they certainly not expecting the final load. |
