On the drive home from work, I envisioned a magician performing the cups and balls who was disturbed in his presentation (perhaps he sneezed at the pivotal moment, someone bumped his table or was performing outdoors and a bird defecated on his head) and his climax was mangled. He lifted his cups to reveal his loads had materialized half inside the table (like one of those transporter accidents on Star Trek)

Lately I've been fascinated by tricks where the magical effect is somehow incomplete or got interrupted somehow. Things like Daryl's colour changing knife where you only change half of one side, leaving a thumbprint while the misdirection is still wet. I find questions like "What would it look like if I half-produced a coin" to be fascinating thought experiments. It gets you to envision how your magic should work which can sometimes help you act the moment appropriately.

Some things to ponder:

1) how would this be special for the audience
2) what would this mean to the character of the performer
3) what would you like the audience to feel about this

and yes you can load half balls ect and have the other half glued under the table.

BUT without some serious setup and character work this would be a half baked waste for the audience.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

Not really on topic, but one explanation I've heard about (from a layperson) for the final loads is trapdoors in the table. So, you could load a half ball, claim that the trapdoor must have misfired, ask them to check it out and remove the half ball. Switch out the half ball for a whole ball, and let them puzzle over the intact table.

This wonderful if you are performing for one spectator. Otherwise, your performance comes to a screeching halt for a gag.

The Ball through Silk which Billy McComb performs sounds right on the button of what you want to do. The effect of the ball half on each side of the side is great.

Perhaps a three fly (I know, stop rolling your eyes) in which one of the coins go "Half" at a time?
