Whoa. Years to develop it or years to nail its practice?

I guess through trial and error, it took years to shape.
To everyone waiting on their copy of Catapult! it goes out the door tomorrow (wed) morning. I'm using a Florida duplication company and the hurricane had delayed shipping. I'm an extremely impatient person, so if you're upset, I completely understand. I'm very very sorry for the delay.

Platt, man. You gotta get rid of that avatar. I was surprised to find that you are so young (OK, by comparison).
I think Catapult is one of the best DVD's of 2006. I can't remember when I've received so much magic for my dollar. Simply outstanding. Your delivery and follow up was very professional and appreciated. Hope we'll be seeing more from you in the years to come. |

Hello everyone.
I got Platt's DVD a few weeks ago. I have to agree that first of all, for what you pay, you get a lot. I have seen few DVDs where so much have been crammed into 2 DVDs. The Catapult "move" is very cool and visual. I was impressed by Platt performing it, and it's applications are endless. Although the video quality is not what you may have been accustomed to after watching DVDs by L&L and others, the explanations are still clear and the material is great. I don't think you can go wrong with this. If you like what you see on the demo and are willing to put the efort into it, then you should go for it and you won't regret it. Enough said. Thanks for the credit on the DVD platt. The tic-tac routine is so diabolical. I have been using my version for some time now and the reactions are usually stunned silence while staring at the pack. Good luck with this.
Yours,
Ivan |

Brian,
I spent a riduculous amount of cash on magic DVDs this year! I would have spent that entire amount for Catapult. It is simply the best value for my magic dollar this year. It's jammed packed with so much material I'll keep myself busy for months and months to come. It's refreshing to see a "normal guy" present the material in a fun and casual way. Watching the DVD makes me feel like I hung out with a good friend for a few hours and walked away with an incredible gift of knowledge. Many thanks for your contribution to the body of magic knowledge. WELL DONE!!!! Best of all the effects are achievable. This is one of the few times I've watched a DVD and truly felt - "I can do that!" (with some practice) But I can! Thanks again! |

I was originally afraid I might get some backlash for the production quality of my DVD, but clearly the Café has proven to a home of conceptual people who are most interested in the effect, not the gloss around it. Indeed, all of the effects take practice, but are very achievable. You're very very welcome. Platt

Hey just to remind everyone in the NJ, NY, PA vacinity. Brian is lecturing Monday night for SAM 161. Look up the website for more info. I'll see if I can't make it out to see you Brian.

WOW!! All I have to say is WOW!
Excellent Lecture! I want to see it again! LOL!! Platt, you did a great job for your first ever lecture! Now I've got somethings to keep me busy for a LONG while! Haha... Honestly, seeing the fanning pitch performed live is MIND BOGGLING! It had to have been the most beautiful piece of coin magic I have ever seen! that's gunna keep me busy alone... And I can not get enough of the Catapult move along with the rubbing, and "grabbing" of the coin into the vanish! I think this is the lecture that everything that was taught to me, I will be practicing! Platt, you did an excellent job! Keep up the great work! For those of you who can catch one of Platt's lectures, you will NOT regret it! You will walk out of there with a coin in your sleeve, and your jaw on the ground! -Vinnie PS - I'd expecially like to thank you, Vince! That card effect that you showed me is absolutely phenomenal! Although it is only a 70% chance of getting it right on the money, it is still a great effect! I was thinking about what you were saying about having an out if the card is not where you want it... I think that fixing that problem during the effect is actually really fun, and really puts you to the test to figure out what your going to do next... Because of coarse, the spectator doesn't know what'll happen next; until you show them... Take care, buddy... I hope to see you at future lectures! |

Thank you so much Vinnie. That means a lot to me. The lecture was a humbling experience. Two hours of talking and teaching is tough! Particularly to a room full of veteran coin men. I certainly have a new respect for people who regularly do this. To everyone else who made it out, thank you.
I'd also like to thank Vince Mendoza. He knocked me and the rest of the room out with his personal variation of "dime in tic tac box." Great work. Platt

Just don't ask Vince where he pitched the coin (or offer to retrieve it!)
Echo Vinnie's comments -- wonderful to see some of the "veteran coin guys" go from thinking "who is this guy" to "WHO IS THIS GUY!!!" Our Assembly book a lot of lecturers (so our guys have seen it all...the good, bad and ugly), and everyone there (packed room) was very impressed by both Platt's magic and the way he taught/presented it. Wonderful debut Platt! Scott |

Platt,
Hey, once again... I feel bad about the soup, but it'll give David a story he can tell for the rest of his life. Yes, Brian did his debut lecture for SAM 161 in Green Brook, NJ last night and I completely agree with Vinny. WOW! Fantastic job! I know this'll catapult you onto an even broader audience of magicians. I was watching the room during your opening talk and I could see a few disapproving faces from some of the vetrans, especially after you mentioned your take of "fooling people". And then five minutes later, it was personally very gratifying to hear the same room full of magicians collectively suck in air with "Oohs and Ahhs", "Did you see that's?", "What just happened's?", "Do that again, please's", "One more time, again, please's", "I've just never seen anything like that before's"! If you were there, you know what I mean, and if you missed it, I'm pretty sure that you'll be hearing even more about Brian in the near future. I'm telling you, he gives you a new attitude towards sleeving. No more jackets! HE SETS YOU FREE. He's like the Abe Lincoln of sleeving. If you haven't already, pick up your own copy of his DVD. It'll be the best $35.00 you'll spend. ps. Vinny, let me tell you, I'm very impressed with your attitude towards magic. I wish I was as focused and better able to grasp concepts when I was a junior. You're gonna go far too. If you need any help or advice with anything, drop me a line. Vince Mendoza |

Platt, the pleasure is all mine! I've been having so much fun with the Catapult, and the S.U.C.G. Vanish! It's the best to watch yourself do it in the mirror and fool yourself! Vince is so right! You are going to be the next top coin magician! The next Bobo! Hehe! That would be great! Ever thought of updating Bobo's MCM? That would be just the thing for you! You deserve to eb the author of it! Haha...
Scott, you are so right! There was an applause after EACH AND EVERY effect he showed! And I don't meen just clappin out of respect; I mean these guys were in awe at how amazing these things were, and how magical it looked! Excellence! Pure Excellence! Vince, Thank you so much! That means a lot to me! It is very appreciated! Well, as much as you wanted to be in my boots when you were a junior, I wish the same for myself when I get to be around your age! You are FILLED with info on all types of magic effects, DVDs, Books, etc., etc!! I couldn't believe how educated you were on the topic! Every topic that someone needed help with answering, you were right there to should out the answer! I just found the amount of magic knowledge that you had to be amazing! And then to top it all off, you blow us away with your little addition to the dime in tic-tac box effect! Absolutely great! Best wishes to you all, -Vinnie Laraway |
