I want to thank everyone for all of the constructive advice that you have offered. My outlook on this type of presentation will be reconsidered. What I was originally trying to do was to determine exactly WHAT EFFECTS would a
visually impaired mentalist do. In so doing I assumed that the effects would be super strong and therefore a strong choice for any mentalist with a serious approach to their act. For the humorous or extrovert performer thses items may not be appropriate. I bow to the combined wisdom of the Café members.

I think mentalism, as opposed to "magic", is all about credibility. In general, a magician is known to be "tricking" you and the challenge and fun of it if figuring out how he does it... and perhaps in the back of your mind you wonder if he has some type of "power".

While they may doubt in the beginning, most mentalism shows build up credibility so that the audience BELIEVES there is some power. The fun is BELIEVING... not only in the mentalist, but in themselves.

If you reveal at the end that you have been lying to them the entire time, you destroy the credibility to built up, which destroys the believe in you, and ultimately destroys the believe in themselves you built up.

It's like a magician doing a mind blowing trick and then revealing how it's done, which happens to be insanely easy. People just go... "oh". People don't WANT to know how everything works... they want a little mystery and something to believe in... especially when that "something" is themselves.

Perhaps you could perform blinded and still have respect from your audience. Perform blindfolded. This sounds like more of a specialty show, but with the proper blocking and scripting along with carefully selected routining, it will come out well. Just ask Gil.
