I have bought an astrophere some years ago in high school. then joined the marine corps so I havent used it in some time. I am out of the corps now and want to get back in magic, but cant seem to find anything on this paticular trick i.e. music, routines , etc. any help will be very helpful.

Unfortunatly I have run across very little material on the Astrosphere, but you might find the Kinetic Sphere interesting. You can buy it at http://www.precisionmagic.com It combines Astroshpere (sort of) with a Zombie for some surprising results. You might give it a try.

You are suppose to work these things out yourself. Your style of performing, your music you like and etc.

This is what makes an act! Practice and practice until you have something that is yours!

I have never found anything written about Astrophere. Which is really good, because if there were then everyone would be doing the same routine.

Hmm ... I predict that within a year, Jeb Sherrill is going to produce a 2 volume DVD that will quickly become the definitive work on the Astrosphere. Whattya say Jeb? After having seen your Zombie DVD's I know you would by up to the challenge!

I broke the thread in mine 10 secs into my second practice session.
Can anyone recommend any stronger invisible thread to use with this trick as its worth perservering with.
I am interested in the new kinetic ball recommended by precision magic above--but the video clip was a little vague to get the effect of the trick clearly.

Use black silk thread for now, just to work out your routine and get back to practicing! In the meantime, go looking for a smaller and lighter object (it doesn't have to be a sphere!) to float. Keep in mind that your final version should use really invisible thread. When you feel you have something worth showing after practicing with the original AS and any kind of thread, hook your new object to the IT and see how you like it! If you blow your socks off, make sure you put them back on before you show it to someone else.

If you still have your Astrosphere...

Toss that ugly cloth & thread hookup....useless.

Get this thread:

http://www.thatthreadshop.com/sulkyinvisible.htm

Get the "Smoke" color, then get this book, Invisible Thread Manual - Ralph Wichmann :

http://www.hanklee.org/xcart/product.php?productid=6140

Then buy a 24 - 36" sheer scarf from JC Penney or a women's accessories store (the mall), and you will have the best Astrosphere routine EVER!

The One-Point hookup is what I use...I start with the cloth, the ball moves up, over, and behind the cloth...up & over to the front...then I DROP THE CLOTH...the ball moves to the floor, then up to the left hand...then s-l-o-w-l-y to the right hand.

I'm told it's MUCH spookier than the Zombie, which I also perform from time to time.

Hope this helps!

Good advice, Doug! One other thing I discovered is moving the hook-up point to various other locations for even more interesting effects. That is made possible with a Velcro tab to replace the metal hook. My Wizard robe is made of a fabric that Velcro "hookies" can cling to, so I have a wide variety of locations, but even if you just have one or two different points for the hook, you can accomplish a lot more by making use of them.

And while you are upgrading the foulard and thread, I suggest you look into the great spun 6" RNT II SBL Sphere, it looks first class!
Hey Jeb, let's work on a DVD for these guys huh?

Sounds good to me. It looks like there might just be a need. And I really want an SBL Sphere.
