There's a talent show coming up in my school... unfortunatly all I have is a thumb tip, rubberbands, deck of cards....

what could you suggest I perform? I was thinking bill switch but am unsure if it is visible from stage...

needs to be relatively quick, and prop easy... as I have minimal resources here...

thanks

I assume this will be in the school auditorium? How much time are you being given? And how much time do you have to prepare this? And why do you have an e-mail address at Temple? You make this sound like a Grade or HS talent show. Otherwise you would of stated you're a college student at the University and written like one. Well maybe not. I hope you are not at Temple and write as you did in that post. I'm no poet but I sure try, try, try...

People cannot suggest or tell you what you would like. Magic as any talent being persued takes time, sometimes years to find what fits for you and your personality. Such a question is cannot smartly be answered.

What you can do is purchase catalogs from Abbott's Magic, Tannen's Magic, Steven's Magic, Hank Lee Magic Factory. Read study and see what interest you. Start purchasing these miracles. Practice and rehearse them for a month each every day until you can do them without thinking. Then you may be ready to give a performance.

Magic is an art! And only be performed by those that chose to take it seriously!

Victory carton of mark wilson is a good one! multiplying balls, or card manipulation, vanish and reappering of silk. a good stage showmanship and good music will make you win... and the above post is right, theres no overnight great magician, it takes time and practice...

hope this helps..

thanks!

Ah...no problem Doc. Well I understand if Med school is the case. Knock 'em dead! Hold on, that didn't come out right...Break a leg!...oh this is getting worse.

So back to your original question, how much time are you being given for this talent show?

Magic is supposed to be an art form and you are the artist. Let's say you were getting into oil painting. Teachers and senior artists could guide you in the basic skills and techniques of oil painting. At the end of the day, however, you would need to decide WHAT to paint. That decision comes from the inspiration within you; from the message you want to convey.

The same goes for magic. We can guide you in basic skills and techniques that may be fundamental to the art of magic. But for me to tell you what to perform would be like a painter telling Picasso to paint an apple.

Close your eyes. Visualize what message or emotion you want to convey to your audience. Then go out and canvass the various effects that can help achieve that result for you. Once you've achieved that vision, it will be much easier for us to help make a few meaningful suggestions.
