I was looking to use a slate board instead of a whiteboard for a couple of mentalism routines and was wondering where I can find a notebook sized slate board... short of ebay.
Also... what do you prefer? Whiteboard or slate board? I know Osterlind prefers slate, and I've seen Banachek use Whiteboard. Any perferences? Problems with either? |

Hmm... I'm not sure if there's one in my area, but that's a great idea!

Black is often preferred to white as white can produce glare, a reflection of light into the specs eyes, in bright lights.
I eventually had to make my own, which was no fun at all. Good luck, Tom. |

Teacher supply stores have them. I actually grabbed one from my moms class room. I prefer black or green slate, because it is easier to see from a distance when written on.

If you are up for simple woodworking, you can make your own. All you need is a wooden frame with a piece of "hardboard" in the centre for the slate. (Nobody has used real slate in over 50 years; it's too heavy and too expensive.) Paint the board with blackboard paint--available at any home building or craft store--and you have a lovely custom slate.

Check your local craft stores. In my region we have an outlet called Hobby Lobby that carries them in a wide assortment of sizes.
I prefer white board. It has glare issues but looks much less suspicious to today's audiences. |
