I just bought mine at a local bookstore. I think it is meant for those kids and grown-ups who would want a taste of street magic that they see on TV. It's a total of about 128 pages on quality paper with lots of photos on every page. I got mine for about $15. If you're a newbie and you're interested to learn some basic photography for example, you can get an illustrated guide on photography. If you're interested to learn some street magic, you can get this book. It's that type of book. (Although I prefer to call it walk-around magic)
The book is divided into several sections. And each effect are explained step by step and accompanied by photos. Each section contains about 3 to 8 effects. The sections of the book are as follows: Card magic - This one contains some easy to do card magic. It teaches some palming techniques. Coin, money magic- Some effects include a bill change and a coin vanish. Rubber band magic- Has some jumping rubber band effects and making one rubber band as two. Fire magic- Making a match light up using you finger tips. A scorched card effect. Ashes on your arms. Mind magic- Prediction effect with 3 matchboxes. Scary magic- Penetration effect where your finger penetrates a plstic fork, eating glass, plugging your nose with a pencil. There are also explanations on self-levitation and levitating a soda can. Card flourishes- This section teaches you on fanning and card shooting. I think most of the effects are quite basic and straightforward. It might give you some useful ideas. There is also a reference section. But there are no credits given on each effect.
imagine the possibilities... endless...

EXACTLY what I was going for! A really nice looking book, lots of cool photos, cool magic, nothing overly complicated, a basic introduction with none of the usual cheese associated with magic books. You didn't honestly think I would put my best stuff in there did you?? Thanks for the review! Gary |

Gary,
Where was the crediting in the book? I saw none what so ever. For me if your book is the first intro to magic for a person they are going to start out right of the bat without a respect for the importance of recognition of the creators of effects and sleights and the history of the art. I also have a problem with books like yours that are sold at major book stores where anyone can walk in and within 10-20 minutes of looking at the book in the store have been exposed to many things in magic. Granted many of the effects are basic but to me exposure is exposure. That is why I do not think magic books should be sold in major book stores unless they are sealed. I know someone will say that Bobo's Modern Coin Magic is sold in these same stores. That is a different story entirely. A person cannot look at Bobo's and then all of a sudden know how many effects are done. One must read that book to gain the knowledge. With your book with all the pictures a person does not need to study the text. Are these books put out exposing some classics of magic for the simple motivation of monetary gain or to introduce people to magic. If it is the latter as I hope it would be why not teach them in the intro about magic ethics, the history and respect for the art and have the book sealed so Timmy Thompson the 14 year old kid cannot waltz in and leave with enough knowledge from flipping through your book to expose magic to his buddies on the Internet. Cody JH Pace Do you really think that people who are intentionally leafing through magic books are doing so to expose magic? How many people do you think are doing this on a daily basis? Give me a break...as it has been said many times before, more magic is exposed by our fellow magi performing for the public without the proper practice and experience than any book that's leafed through at your local book store or library. Cody, hate to tell you this but magic books of all types have been sitting on shelves in public libraries, school libraries, and bookstores for many, many years...has it made magic any less popular or enjoyable because of the .008% of the total population picks up a magic book and tells a friend that a silk disappears because the magician has a TT???? You tell me. |

You feel your way and I feel mine. I am not going to argue with you about that. My main problem was the crediting and yes the exposure. Are there other books in library's and such that expose things? Yes. Is that an excuse to put out another? In my opinion, No. What happened to the oath that we as magicians all hopefully took when we started in this art?
This will be my last post on the subject. I have made my feelings made known on the subject and if others disagree that is fine and their right. Cody JH Pace

One thing I noticed was the reference to the Café in the back of the book. I thought that was kinda cool.

I agree, Its a cool book. Not sure that intermediate or better magi are the intended audience but its a good read regardless. LOVE the fork thru finger!!!

Thanks for the support guys, it IS intended as a BASIC intro to magic, it was written that way with the intention of giving a rounded intro to magic to complete beginners, enough to get people hooked.
I think I succeeded. Take care. Gary |
