Okay...Hello my name is Austin Mizzell, and I am a 16 year who is completely obbsessed with magic...i have always had an interest with it but never really did anythign about it. I started out my new career about 3 weeks ago by buying "Roberto Giobbi's Card College Volume 1". I have been reading that book and getting some pointers from a fellow friend of mine who is a magician. I have been working on what you might know it as the "double lift" and also "Erdnase Change". I do not show anyone my progresstion besides my dad and the friend that is helping me grow. In my eyes I have made an enormous improvment from day 1 but my only problem is I still get nervous to this day. My hands shake and I cannot grip the cards correctly, my voice start to go deep and crackles, and I can't even imagine the lok on my face whe nthis is occuring. I just want a few pointers from you guys who have been doing these tricks for a long time. Please help me out, I love magic and I will grow to be a lot better... Thank you, Austin

Hey Austin...welcome to Magic and the Magic Café. Your entering a long deep rabbit hole my friend...full of lots of wonder and amazement. This is one of the most rewarding hobbys out there. You can keep it a hobby or make it a full time career. You can stay right in the middle of the 2. It's great. It is however a tough road to venture down. It requires a lot of patience, determination and PRACTICE! Which is the real reason you were shaking while performing for you dad. You'll get better and better the more you practice. Your movements and flow will become smoother. Your voice richer and more melodic. You'll settle into a rythm when you perform. This will take a long time, and it'll change with every new effect and routine you learn. Aside from the techniques smoothing out, your people skills, your presentation, your persona will alter and grow as well. This takes time. I know it seems as if it's never going to happen and your in lightning mode right now and you want it ALL NOW! (was that an acurate description of your thoughts? ;-)...we call that Mentalism here at the Café) Actually we've all been there, many still are...many go back to that point when they learn new things or venture into a new genre of magic. You'll get there, stick with it.
Everyone welcome Austin. He's a great guy and very ambitious. I'm working with him and doing my best to steer him down the right path. It's as much fun teaching as performing I think. :-p

Welcome Austin! I've been doing this 30 or so years and I still get nervous sometimes. I guess it helps keep you from getting sloppy. There's a whole thread here somewhere on performing while nervous. Try a quicksearch on "nervous". Jim |

Welcome Austin, I get nervous as well. But if you perform over and over eventually you will calm down and fry everyone! whenever I'm going to do a corporate or restaraunt gig I get nervous until I approach my first group, then I calm down and stuf just happens!! you'll get there.
