Welcome Brian, Joe is truly a great guy and a huge help to all the Bay Area magicians you are lucky to live so close.
Hey Jay, I heard you killed at the SAM in Martinez, everyone is still talking about the show, I wish I could make it to your show in Marin I am sure it will be a blast, as all of your shows are. if anyone gets a chance to go I highly recommend it. Dan, I believe Joe at Misdirection requires a video of the act to be entered (just a heads up) and his is the only competition I know of locally, other than the SAM IBM OMC stuff that usually require membership. BIG WEEKEND OF MAGIC ( Dave Cox will be at Cal Magic Dinner theater this coming weekend) and if you have never seen his show this is a must see. Dave is funny and very original,he is a regular at the Castle and performs everywhere. I highly recommend this show as well, and of course the dinner is fantastic to boot.

Just want to get the word out there that on Thursday, February 8th, Bob Sheets will be lecturing at California Magic! Assembly 112 is hosting this event, and assembly members pay $10. Non-assembly members are very welcome to attend as well, and the charge is $15.!
This should be an excellent lecture and we hope that some of you will be able to attend! We sure will be! My hubby has seen him lecture before. This will be the first time my daughter and me will have the opportunity to see him. I have heard great things tho! So mark the date and we hope to see you at California Magic on the 8th!! |

As 6 pages plus seems daunting, I am going to start a new Bay area/Norcal post.

I have been thinking about selling my Zig Zag and since it does not break down I would like to offer it up to you here in the Bay area first, as I don't beleive I could ship it easily. I have a couple of other things I am considering letting go of like a bow saw and and lester lake head chopper. if anyone is interested let me know and I will post more details.

Hi to all.
I just wanted to check in (Finally , thanks for the PM Rich) I'm from the East Bay, and very new to magic in general (Aside from the layman's perspective). I'm currently focusing on learning the basics of coin work (non gaffed stuff). It sounds like I've got to get over to Cal Magic to see a show one of these days, it sounds great! I'm glad to see that there's a good Bay Area population here on the Café, and look forward to getting to know everyone Justin. |

Think inside the box. . . it's less crowded.

Great minds think alike Zazz! For those interested, once again, the price is $15.00 for non-members and only $10 for S.A.M. members! That is one "heck" of a deal for a lecture!
So why not come out for a night of fun, laughs, and learning?! |

Just wanted to report in on the lecture. What a fun night! Bob Sheets is an excellent lecturer! He was extremely entertaining, had us laughing all night, while maintaining a nice pace (no one falling asleep here!) with lots of insightful information! Our 13 year old daughter couldn't stop talking about him all the way home. She was so pumped up and jazzed all night! He was really sweet to her and provided her so much encouragement and some really nice tips on working with her shells, the balance between being able to do closeup along with her stage show, and offering her some recommendations on what would be some nice tricks for her. It was so nice to see him really encourage her on pursuing her magic by reminding her of the vast opportunities available for females in the business. It is moments like these that help teens stay connected with their magic instead of going off in the wrong directions and just following the "pack" who think it is "uncool".
If you EVER have the opportunity to go out and see Bob lecture, please do so! It will be money well spent, and I can honestly say this man has my utmost respect! And, if by some small chance Bob happens to read this, thanks for taking so much time with our 13 year old daughter. You really made her night! She even came up with some really cute opening patter late last night...although at midnight...we were pushing her off to bed telling her it was a school night! Yes, another *magical* night for our family! Thanks!! One last thing, California Magic was the perfect venue for this event. If you haven't had the opportunity to stop by yet, try your best to get there, you won't be disappointed! Gerry and Laura are always the perfect hosts! Our family really enjoys getting out to their place every chance we get! Remember, its about magicians supporting magicians! We are all so lucky to have such a quality venue as Gerry's place in the Bay Area, so come out and support it! Shows are every Friday and Saturday, and I know that there will also be some upcoming lectures and I will post them as the information becomes available! |

Gaddy,it was taken down... I and others thought it would be a shame if some of the previous posts became lost to future readers, and since it is easy to navigate these posts, it seemed unnecessary.

Very true. you only need to read the most recent ones anyhow, and this is a running commentary on just how much activity there is in the NorCal area magic community!

Hey Guys!
It's me again... From Redding Cali. (yah... way up here!). Anyway, we'll be having another night of magic in two weeks (the 27th from 6pm-9pm). If anyone is interested, we would love to meet some of you guys from the bay area and inbetween... Maybe we can arrange some magic-fest or something in the near future to get all of us "NorCal magicians" together for one big shin-dig! PM me if you are interested in our magic meeting this month (again... the 27th). -Bryan Gilles |
