Hey Dan, I would love to see the street shells sometime, it is a bit I have been considering for the Calamari's, I think it would fit our theme well but I have been hesitant to buy before I see them in person. let me know when you will be down at Gerry's and maybe we could meet up and discuss them a bit...
We had our second gathering of the VIP Group last night at Gerry's and it was a blast, no bylaws, no Roberts rule of order etc... just a bunch of magicians getting together and doing, discussing and helping each other with magic. This is the kind of group I have always wanted to find, no B.S. just magic. I know the VIP group is expensive but the get togethers so far have been well worth it and because it will also help keep this venue open and available for magicians to perform and watch great magic I encourage all that can to take advantage of it. I would love to hear what others think of the California Magic Dinner Theater I am glad Dan that you love it as much as I do and understand what an important part of the Bay Area Magic scene it is. Hi Rich,
Not sure if I count as a separate "entity" or not, but I'm still checking in! LOL I absolutely love the Griffins and the atmosphere they have created at California Magic! Top notch! Can't wait to go to our next show, if only we can get all the relatives organized on a date... As Dan already mentioned, the interaction with the performing magicians, and the magicians who come just to watch the shows themselves, cannot be beat and it is a wonderful venue for being able to expose yourself on a whole new level after the shows. I can not even begin to tell you how much my daughter and I appreciate the time the magicians are willing to invest in helping us! We are always trying to promote Gerry's and handing out business cards. Again, as Dan already stated, we really enjoyed watching you perform for the City of Martinez' waterfront event! We are planning to go again on the 19th, but just recently noticed a schedule change as to performers. We have been telling a lot of people about the upcoming show to hopefully help boost attendance. We are supposed to be going with a group so we plan on arriving early so that we can get those box seats up in back. As a group, its nice. Otherwise, I would opt for being up close to the stage for a better view of the magic. Also, I would love to plug S.A.M. 112's Annual Share the Magic Show to be held on August 25th, 7:00 p.m., at Diablo Valley College. Last year was the first year we attended and it was a great time! We look forward to this year's show as well. Both Dan and I will be volunteering to help work the show, but you can bet I'll be in my seat by the time the first act starts....wouldn't miss this show for the world! Why, you might ask? Because our daughter who is actively involved in her S.Y.M. group (and attends most all the S.A.M. meetings) was asked to participate in the event! Yes, I know, again...a shameless plug! What is a proud mom to do? There should be an article (hopefully if they print it) in the Contra Costa Times in the upcoming weeks. One of the board members called to ask our permission to add our daughter's photo to the article and to also promote her as one of their youth performers for the event. There are some great events in the Bay Area so I am really glad you thought about starting this topic Rich. I think it will benefit us all! Kudos! Have a *magicial* evening, Kristen |

All three of us would love to join the V.I.P. Membership, but as you said it can be pricey multiplied by three. I think we would get a lot out of it. The VIP Membership Supporters list is quite impressive.
I would love to show you the Street Shells. I think you would like them. You might also consider for your show the School for Scoundrels Trade Show Shells. Here is a description for them: Three Jumbo Shells measuring an incredible 8"x6" and 2 1/2" deep! Includes four 2" peas (you can purchase additional peas separately) Includes a DVD of Chef Anton and Whit Haydn's audience-tested routine and advanced handling tips! Exact patter used in Chef Anton's trade show act for years Large enough to load your company's premiums or products Great visual prop for promotional photos Not only do the Trade Show Shells play great from a distance, they are an extremely attractive, eye-catching prop with plenty of guaranteed audience interaction! There is probably a demo video of them on the School for Scoundrel site with Chef Anton demonstrating them, or there is a demo of them on the DVD, An Introduction to the Shell Game. I think you would like them. Dan |

Hello and just checking in. Thanks very much for the kind words about the California Maigc Dinner Theatre. Working hard to keep my dream alive and strong for a northern California magic venue. We just hit show 150. Thanks to all who have been here to see the shows, perform in the shows and keep coming back. I'll keep the stars coming to the California Magic Stage.
An open question for everyone. If you have requests about who you might like to see perform here, please let me know and I'll see what I can do to get them here. And since magic shows are so few and far between, let's keep the updates of who is performing where going on this Forum. Good work Rich Stewman! Gerry Griffin |

Kristen, thanks for checking in and I am glad you like this thread it will benifit all of us here in Nor-Cal by keeping us up to date on events and by letting everyone in our magic comunity get to know one another better.(IMHO)
I would love it if this thread would be used by everyone here in Nor-Cal / Bay Area. Also Kristen, thanks for posting the Share the Magic show info this is exactly what this is all about and it is great to see your daughter is on the bill, Dan, yes you are right it is the trade show shells I am interested in I saw School for Scoudrals and shells on your first post and jumped to the wrong conclusion, I would still love to see the street shells sometime. Thanks Gerry, Califonia Magic Dinner Theater is so very important to the Bay Area Magic Comunity, I just hope everyone here understands just how important and what an incredible opportunity having a Weekly magic performance venue is and having international stars of magic performing regularly, so we (Who love magic) can see them in person is just incredible. as far as who I would like to see performing, Christopher Hart, Michael Finney, Michael Ammar, Andrew Goldenhirsch, Taboray,(sp) Jade, to name just a few I would also like to see more local acts get involved there are a lot of talented magicians in the bay area for both close up walk around and parlour, maybe you could let them know how to get a tape to you or hold open auditions or something like that. with around 7 million people here in this area there is enough for everyone so no one should feel like this is a competition, everyone post what ever they want to. basically I don't want this to turn into a (Cal Magic)thread. I would like this to be about everything magical in Nor-Cal From off Market theater shows to Maginga shows in the south bay, Mis Directions Lectures and Compitition shows to what restaraunts (sp) you are performing at. and then lets make this usefull and actually support our own. keeping my fingers crossed Rich

Gerry:
I think it would be nice to get Jeff Ezell back on the schedule again. I really enjoyed his close up performance and he is an absolute gentleman! I really enjoyed having the opportunity to speak with him. Daryl is always a pleasure, but I know he performs on a semi-regular basis. John Carney was hilarious, we laughed so much during his performance that he would be fun to see again. Glad to see that Dana Daniels is also back on schedule, we will always enjoy seeing him because of all the Disney-inspired memories connected to him and Danielle. Although, she was still giving him a hard-time at your place! (She asked him to juggle a piece of rice...along with a shoe and bowling ball, and amazingly, he did it!) That's just my 2 cents worth..which isn't worth much! If we had our way, we would be at every show! To everyone else out there...I would love to hear who is performing where! Our family is always looking for new opportunities to see performers. It inspires us!! For example, if your city has a calendar of events that features performances...post the link! Again, this apprentice-family loves to get out and watch magic performances and always views it not only as entertainment, but as a learning experience as well! Thanks everyone! Kristen |

They sure don't make it easy to find the Off Market Theater. Google led to CitySearch which said Mission, cross street Powel. Except Powel doesn't cross Mission. Is the theater on one of the corners of Mission and 5th or 6th?

Just thought I'd chime in since calamari was kind enough to PM me. A caveat- I'm not currently performing, haven't been for years, and with a full time job that doesn't involve magic, I'm more on the design/construction side of things than the performance side (even though I'd love to start performing again...) Apart from that, I still love magic (to the point where I'm slowly constructing an act, just in case) and would be delighted to get together with other magicians once my schedule isn't booked solid (provided you don't mind me dragging my fiancee along!)
I'm rapidly discovering how quickly a social calendar tends to get booked solid once one gets engaged...

Hi All:
I live in Phoenix, but will be in San Franciso from time to time with my brother, who's receiving Cancer treatments from the Davies Center at the college/university on Castro. We have a hotel we're staying at on Lombard, about a 20 minute walk to Fisherman's Wharf. I'll have a lot of time on my hands - especially evenings. Can you all fill me in on some places or things to do. I'd like to go Misdirections Magic Shop too. Thanks for any help - not sure when I'll be up there next. Maybe sometime this month. ron |

Sorry to hear about your brother.
The two must see events in SF are Teatro ZinZanne, a dinner and performance (pricy but worth it, you'll see), and Beach Blanket Babylon, an amazing, rip roaring show. Both are probably a 15 minute walk from your hotel. Also if you are in SF at Sunset and there is no fog, get yourself to The Beach Chalet restaurant. It is right at the beach and watching the sunset from the bar is an event all its own. After that it becomes a question of personal preference and timing. You can PM me for more specialized places to go, see, and do. Cheers, Tom |
